I just wanted to make a correction to the post made last week by Robin Taylor, which stated: >"There was a Col. James Martin on Snow Creek, whose daughter married a >Settle....... " Col. James MARTIN, of Snow Creek Plantation (Stokes Co., NC) had a total of 16 children; however, I'm not aware of any of his children marrying a SETTLE. You may be confusing Col. James Martin with his brother, Robert Martin (c1750-1822) of Rockingham Co., whose son, Robert D. Martin, Jr. (1784-1848) married Mary SETTLE on 7 April 1798. Both Col. James and Robert Martin, Sr. were brothers of my 5th GGF, Governor Alexander Martin (c1738-1807) who built the Danbury Plantation on the Dan River at Jacobs Creek, Rockingham Co.
