Yes, I just came from Rockingham County and the NC State archives and collected about 75 deeds. It is simple. Look in the Grantee-Grantor books of Rockingham (or Guilford) under the surname you are interested in, Caffey in your case. My Dilworths purchased some Caffey land, by the way. The Grantee or Grantor book will tell you which deed book and page number. Go get the book and copy the page in Rockingham County Courthouse, or get it from microfilm at the archives. Make sure to look in both books. Grantor is the person selling the land, Grantee is the person acquiring the land. The Deed could be from one to four or more pages long, and sometimes you get some unexpected bonus info, as I did last week. I sure hope I can get some time in North Carolina one of these days. NC archives won't lend microfilm to out of state libraries like TN & VA do.
