Researching James A Foust, an African American brickmaker, who resided in Madison NC from approx. 1880 until his death in 1937. He was original a deacon at St Stephens United Methodist church, but eventually built his own church, Mt Carmel Holiness Tabernacle next door to his home. He was a former slave belonging to the family of george Foust of Alamance county, NC . He was married to Martha Jane Scales, a former slave from the Reidsville area.
