    3. Hi, all, I have been recently sent a partial GEDCOM of undetermined origin which indicates that my Thomas R. STONE [b. 1825, Caswell Co.- d. 1864, Richmond, VA, 13th NC, CSA] may have been the son of John D. STONE, who, the GEDCOM says, d. in Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., about 1859. The GEDCOM states that John was the same man as the son of Epaphroditus STONE, who d. 1811 in Caswell Co. Other sons of Epaphroditus STONE and his wife, Lucy were also named in Epaphroditus' will: Tillman, Robert, Peter and James STONE. Does anyone recognize the sons of Epaphroditus and Lucy as their own ancestors? John D. STONE m. [reportedly 2nd] in Rockingham Co., 1846, to Nancy J. HARDIE; his first wife is stated in this GEDCOM to have been Ellender TRAVIS, whom it states he m. 1822 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Ellender is stated to have been the mother of John's children: (1) Lucy Frances STONE m. 1847, Caswell Co., NC to Martin Joseph DURHAM, Sr. ----- (2) William Epperson STONE, b. 1830, Caswell Co.; d. ca. 1905, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (3) John F. STONE m. 1853, Caswell Co., Mary E. FERGUSON [this marriage was witnessed by my Thomas R. STONE!] ----- (4) Robert J. STONE, d. 18 Mar 1912, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1856, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., Mary HORSEFORD [HORSFORD]; m. (2) ca. 1859, Mary Ann MITCHELL, d. 25 Dec 1919, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (5) Pinkney Washington STONE, b. 13 Mar 1838, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co.; d. 24 Jan 1924, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1862, Rockingham Co., Mary Jane LEA [LEE], b. 29 May 1844, NC; d. 24 Sept 1884, Rockingham Co.; m. (2) ca. 1887, Martha Ann MILLER, b. NC; d. 21 May 1911, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., NC. - ---------------------------------------------- Chidren of John D. & Nancy J. HARDIE are all recorded as born in Oregon Hill [Oregonville?], NC: (6) Samuel STONE, b. Dec 1847; d. ca. 1902; m. 1867, Rockingham Co., Martha Jane JOHNSON; d. aft. 1910, Rockingham Co. ----- (7) Paulina STONE, b. ca. 1849 ----- (8) Peter STONE, b. ca. 1851; m. 1870 Fannie [Frances?] DODSON. ----- (9) Martha STONE, b. ca. 1853 ----- (10) Nancy STONE, b. ca. 1855 ----- (11) Julie/Julia STONE, b. ca. 1857 ----- (12) Virginia STONE, b. ca. 1859 - ------------------------------------------------ In trying to place the Stones of Rockingham, I investigated to some extent the little town of Stoneville in Rockingham Co. [which, it seems, was called Mayo prior to 1877.] The history of Stoneville at the American Local History Network site indicates that Stoneville was named after Pinkney and Thomas STONE, who were merchants in the area [I don't know if that may have been sometime before 1877, but seems most likely. Rev. Frank R. STONE was the first mayor of Stoneville following the name change from Mayo.] Was this the same Pinkney STONE as the son of John D. STONE? Does anyone out there know anything of any of these Caswell/Rockingham/Person STONEs and the allied families? Anyone know whose GEDCOM this is??? Have any documents of any sort with ANY of these names in them? I suspect my Thomas R. STONE to have been a "lost child" [the eldest?] or other close relative of John D. STONE. Thomas R. STONE has very many descendants in this area of NC & all over the US. I would like very much to determine if he might have been this John D. STONE's child. Thanks for your help!
