Son of father unknown and Ester Briggs of King, NC. md (2) unknown Thacker living in Madison, NC 4 Aug 1960 MADISON James William Briggs, 34, of Mayodan. died at 5 p.m.yesterday at Stokes Reynolds Hospital at Danbury after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Briggs was born Feb 26.1926 at Rural Hall, NC to Will and Bertha Mae Briggs. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Briggs was a truck driver. Surviving are his wife Mrs.Odessa Doss Briggs; a daughter, Miss Lori Ann Briggs, of the home, two sons. Jimmy and Johnny Briggs; both of the home; his mother, Mrs.Bertha Briggs Thacker of Madison, Rt. 3; four sisters. Mrs. Odell Cardwell of Madison, Rt. 3, Mrs. Daniel Farmer of Mayodan, Mrs. Raymond Lewellyn of Stokesdale Rt 2, and Mrs John Thomas Gentry of Stokesdale Rt. 1; three brothers. James Thomas Briggs of Stokesdale, Rt. 1, Oscar Briggs of Collinsville, Va. and Carl Eugene Briggs of Stokesdale, Rt 2 The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Good News Baptist Church at Madison Rt 1, by the Rev Ralph Matthews and the Rev H. Hank, I did find a Esther Made d/o of R. M. on the 1870 Cenus for Stokes county (king is located in Stokes0 Briggs, R. M(artin) 66m farm laborer, b. NC Sarah C 33 f Sarah 21 Esther E 18 Jos. E 14 Levi 12 Joana E 11 Iredell 6 This is the only Briggs family listed in Stokes county on the 1870.
