The Forsyth County Genealogical Society will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the auditorium of the Central Library at 660 West 5th Street in Winston-Salem. James E. Gist will present a program on: "African American Genealogy Roadblocks" James E. Gist is a Winston-Salem native. He is retired from the US Air Force and Lockheed Martin Aerospace. His interest in genealogy began almost 30 years ago when he found an old family Bible and wanted to "fill in the blanks" with his grandmother's help. His family database has grown to over 2400 names. He is looked to as a family historian by the Gists of Chester County, SC. He recently developed and presented a class in African American Genealogy at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where he is chair of the Computer Lab Ministry. Note that if the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools have been closed on the meeting date owing to weather, the Society does not meet. Meetings are free and open to the public.
