While i cannot answer your question, I do know there were several Coram/Corum families in Caswell county which is next to Rockingham. On an 1784 tax list there is a William and a Robert, also I found several Corum marriages in Caswell before 1800. I also have marriages for Rockingham, but did not find any early marriages most were after 1840 If I can help, please feel free to email me. Hello list, I am seeking confirmation on the parents of: Fielding Corum b. 1794 Va. appears on the 1820 Rockingham Co. N.C. census and the 1830 Guilford census and 1850 Johnson Co. TN. census. The 1810 Rockingham shows 4 Corums, all close together; Champ, Richard, William and Elias. These 4 seem to be the sons of a Champ Corum and wife Catherine Luttrell of Fauquier Co. Va., Champ dies by 1787 and names these 4 and his other children. There's no firm proof these men ARE his children, but logic would suggest it. By the 1820 census of Rockingham Co., only Fielding, William & Richard are listed in the census, leading one to believe that Fielding must be connected to the other two, (logic again), therefore, by 1830 Fielding appears in Guilford Co., adjacent to Rockingham, where still appears a Richard & William. By 1850 Fielding is in Johnson Co. TN. age 56, and in 1850 Rockingham Co. appears Richard age 50, b. VA. , his family, and also in the household appears (father?) William age given as 78 b. VA. NOW, it seems to fit, especially when I find that the probable grandmother of Fielding, Catherine Luttrell had a nephew named Fielding Luttrell. Is this all just a bunch of circumstantial stuff or am I really on to something? Can anyone confirm or deny this theory? Thanks for your attention........Kathy.......
Doris, The James Hunter Chapter of the NSDAR has done three volumes of cemetery books for Rockingham County, NC. They give directions to each cemetery. Possibly someone on the list owns these books and can give you directions. The list has been somewhat quiet - if you do not hear from anyone, write to me privately at robinlt@airmail.net. I will go to Dallas Public and look it up. I know how to find Lawson's Cemetery and the Episcopal Church Cemetery, but they are both in what was Leaksville. I also have directions to the Pratt Cemetery north of town, but not to the Spray Cemetery, here at the house. The books would be useful for you, because they serve as an index to the burials in the cemetery, by name, not by plot. Robin Taylor
Hi. I am new to the list, and am looking for the location of the Spray cemetary in Eden, NC. My g-grandmother is buried there. thanks. Doris
Epaphroditus STONE d. July, 1811 in Caswell Co., NC. His will named wife, Lucy [unk.] and the following sons: (1) Tilman STONE (2) John STONE (3) Robert STONE (4) Peter STONE (5) James STONE It is thought that the second son was John D. STONE who was b. ca. 1800 and d. ca. 1859 in Rockingham Co., NC. However, a John STONE sold property in Caswell in 1786, and a John Stone patented land on the south fork of County Line Creek in 1788, and was probably the same man who did so on the same creek in 1802. This can't be the same John as John D. of Rockingham, but it just might have been the son of Epaphroditus, who had patented land on Hogans Creek? A William STONE patented land on Mill Stone Creek in Caswell Co. in 1779. This appears to have been the same William that was recorded in 1786 as having removed to Burke Co., GA. Who was this William? Does anyone know anything about a Ruth STONE of Person Co.? Any help anyone can give will be most appreciated. Pam pamstone@digital.net

William STONE left a will 1843 in Caswell Co. (Caswell Co., NC Will Book P, 1843-1847.) Does anyone out there have the text of that will, know who he married, and/or who his children were? Thanks! Pam pamstone@digital.net
Hi, all, I have been recently sent a partial GEDCOM of undetermined origin which indicates that my Thomas R. STONE [b. 1825, Caswell Co.- d. 1864, Richmond, VA, 13th NC, CSA] may have been the son of John D. STONE, who, the GEDCOM says, d. in Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., about 1859. The GEDCOM states that John was the same man as the son of Epaphroditus STONE, who d. 1811 in Caswell Co. Other sons of Epaphroditus STONE and his wife, Lucy were also named in Epaphroditus' will: Tillman, Robert, Peter and James STONE. Does anyone recognize the sons of Epaphroditus and Lucy as their own ancestors? John D. STONE m. [reportedly 2nd] in Rockingham Co., 1846, to Nancy J. HARDIE; his first wife is stated in this GEDCOM to have been Ellender TRAVIS, whom it states he m. 1822 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Ellender is stated to have been the mother of John's children: (1) Lucy Frances STONE m. 1847, Caswell Co., NC to Martin Joseph DURHAM, Sr. ----- (2) William Epperson STONE, b. 1830, Caswell Co.; d. ca. 1905, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (3) John F. STONE m. 1853, Caswell Co., Mary E. FERGUSON [this marriage was witnessed by my Thomas R. STONE!] ----- (4) Robert J. STONE, d. 18 Mar 1912, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1856, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., Mary HORSEFORD [HORSFORD]; m. (2) ca. 1859, Mary Ann MITCHELL, d. 25 Dec 1919, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (5) Pinkney Washington STONE, b. 13 Mar 1838, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co.; d. 24 Jan 1924, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1862, Rockingham Co., Mary Jane LEA [LEE], b. 29 May 1844, NC; d. 24 Sept 1884, Rockingham Co.; m. (2) ca. 1887, Martha Ann MILLER, b. NC; d. 21 May 1911, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., NC. - ---------------------------------------------- Chidren of John D. & Nancy J. HARDIE are all recorded as born in Oregon Hill [Oregonville?], NC: (6) Samuel STONE, b. Dec 1847; d. ca. 1902; m. 1867, Rockingham Co., Martha Jane JOHNSON; d. aft. 1910, Rockingham Co. ----- (7) Paulina STONE, b. ca. 1849 ----- (8) Peter STONE, b. ca. 1851; m. 1870 Fannie [Frances?] DODSON. ----- (9) Martha STONE, b. ca. 1853 ----- (10) Nancy STONE, b. ca. 1855 ----- (11) Julie/Julia STONE, b. ca. 1857 ----- (12) Virginia STONE, b. ca. 1859 - ------------------------------------------------ In trying to place the Stones of Rockingham, I investigated to some extent the little town of Stoneville in Rockingham Co. [which, it seems, was called Mayo prior to 1877.] The history of Stoneville at the American Local History Network site indicates that Stoneville was named after Pinkney and Thomas STONE, who were merchants in the area [I don't know if that may have been sometime before 1877, but seems most likely. Rev. Frank R. STONE was the first mayor of Stoneville following the name change from Mayo.] Was this the same Pinkney STONE as the son of John D. STONE? Does anyone out there know anything of any of these Caswell/Rockingham/Person STONEs and the allied families? Anyone know whose GEDCOM this is??? Have any documents of any sort with ANY of these names in them? I suspect my Thomas R. STONE to have been a "lost child" [the eldest?] or other close relative of John D. STONE. Thomas R. STONE has very many descendants in this area of NC & all over the US. I would like very much to determine if he might have been this John D. STONE's child. Thanks for your help! Greetings to all, Today was our first day since our new list was launched and we already have 24 subscribers. I started the day off posting a notice on the Rice Genforum site and have since posted messages on the following VA GenConnect County sites: Goochland, Hanover, Louisa, New Kent, Prince Edward and Wythe. Would each of you please take a moment and post an announcement on the GenConnect County sites in the areas you are researching, advising them of our new list? This would be a tremendous help. Hopefully, as we gain subscribers, we will find other Rice researchers willing to share information. Please remember to advise them of the procedure to subscribe which is as follows: Send a message to Rice-Southern-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word SUBSCRIBE contained in the body of the text. Your assistance in advertising our list will be very much appreciated. Martha Rice
