Just a quick note to wish everyone I very happy holiday season! Through all of these gracious lists I have learned not only about my ancestors, but I have received the best gift of all, FAMILY!! And I'm not just talking about new relatives that I have found, but all of you! Everyone is so patient, caring, and willing to jump in and help at a moments notice. That's what family is supposed to be about. All of you have truly become my family! Love and best wishes to all, Kymm in Huntsville, AL
Hi Tim and others, I have been working on this family [on and off] for almost three years. There is no proof my Martin Family is related to Alexander Martin... but my William A. Martin, b. Jan 1830, did have a son, William A. Martin, b. abt. 1862. I say "about" because I don't have the census report in front of me. This William A. Martin was the oldest of 10 children by John and Joannah (Vernon) MARTIN. A brother [to William] and three sisters married the children of Daniel SMITH of Rockingham County. Also, I really would appreciate any information on who Joannah Vernon's parents were. Thanks again, Tim... Regards, Mary, Everett, WA
Hi, I am searching for information on: WILLIAM A. MARTIN... born January 21, 1830 in Mayo Township, Rockingham Co., North Carolina, and died July 15, 1900 in Fannin Co., TX. He married LUCY ANN PROCTOR8 August 01, 1850 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina... William Martin's parents were John and Joannah (Vernon) MARTIN, m. Feb. 1829 Thanks in advance. Mary, Everett, WA
Posting to several lists, apologies if you receive this more than once. I found this membership card along with a bunch of old photos that belonged to my Great-grandmother. I'm having a hard time finding out any information about this group. I seem to have hit a road block with this person. My first and only knowledge of him (until the finding of this card) was on the 1900 Jackson County, TN Census listed with parents as a brother b. 1899 of my great-grandmother. I had at first dismissed him from possibly having any descendants do to the details of their mother and his young age. That he had probably died as an infant. Stated was that she was the mother of nine children with 4 living. Though five children were listed. The spelling on the Census (Amie) differs from that of the card (Amy). I have been unable to find out anything about The National Newsboys Association online, or maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again to all, Kymm Following is description of the approx. 2"x4" card. Front (landscape view): On the top-left corner is a drawing of an eagle perched on rock with wings set ready for flight. Top-right: No. ____ stamped above line is number 10735 Between the eagle and no. is The National Newsboys Association This is to certify that Under the above is a line that extends across width of card with the name Amy Carter hand written in cursive above the line. Centered under line: Member for Life next line: He does not approve of swearing, lying, stealing, gambling, drinking, intoxicating liquors next line: or smoking cigarettes and is entitles to all benefits of said membership and the respect next line: and esteem of the public. Bottom left: (printed on card not handwritten) signature of W. H. Schaefer Secretary Bottom right: (printed on card not handwritten) signature of J. E. Gunckel President Back of Card (Portrait view): Photo with caption "J. E. Gunckel and some of the newsboys"

Does anyone have information on a Samuel ADAMS from Rockingham County? Probably moved to Orange County? My g-g-g-grandparents George Washington HUGHES and Sarah PASCAL obtained a marriage bond in Orange County October 1839 and Samuel ADAMS was a bondsman. I don't know the parents of George and have been searching for any clues. He might have come from Rockingham County and I think I also saw something about a Samuel ADAMS from there as well. Any information is appreciated....Thanks..... John Hughes hughes5@hdo.net www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3374

>This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. >There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all >marriage bonds for all counties of NC. >J. Altenhoff ====================================================== Hi J., I wanted to point out a couple things. It appears that you are taking these from "An Index to Marriage Bonds Filed in the North Carolina State Archives," done by the North Carolina Division of Archives and History ca. 1977. This index does not include "all" the extant marriage bonds for "all" counties. Granville County did not send their bonds to the state, and they are not included on this index. Also there are some counties for which small groups of bonds have been discovered in the courthouses since the time of the index, and they are also not included. Finally, for those people who want to know if a specific marriage is listed on the above index, they can go to: http://familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp and do a search. Options allow the search to be narrowed to marriages in NC, and to narrow down the search years if desired. The entries from the marriage bond index have been entered on the International Genealogical Index (IGI). Click on the name. If the seven digit "Source Call No." of the entry begins with 633, then click on that number, and you can see that is the microfiche number of the specific fiche of the above index from which that marriage was taken. While using the IGI is not a convenient form to use in looking to see all marriage bonds for a surname for a county, and does not include the bondsman and witness information as the index and your site does, it does allow anyone to see if a specific marriage bond is listed on the index, without having to wait for completion of your site. Also, the original marriage bonds listed on the index (and IGI) for most counties are available through any Family History Center, and can be photocopied without having to order from the NC State Archives. Look under North Carolina--[name of county]--vital records Rick Saunders http://genealogypro.com/fsaunders.html
I have created a web page for Marriage Bond Index of NC 1741-1868 <A HREF="http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html">marriagebondofNC </A> http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all marriage bonds for all counties of NC. I will add new surnames weekly so please don't get discouraged if you do not see the surname you are looking for. I have discovered that once you obtain the Index page that you are looking for it is easier to contact the NC Archives and get a copy of the original Marriage Bond. If you would like a specific Surname added to the page you may send me an e-mail and I will put that name on my list to add ASAP. All I ask is that you send one e-mail per Surname. You may send as many Surnames as you like, but please do so separately so that I may easily alphabetize my list that I take with me. In the Subject area put MB of NC (this will get my attention) In the body of the e-mail type the surname you would like added in ALL CAPS. Best of Luck to you all in your search for your ancestors.
