    1. HAS ROCKINGHAM DONE A CEMETERY SURVEY?
    2. Joan Marie Meyering
    3. List Readers: I am very interested in knowing if the county has done a survey of their cemetery burials. I am interested in the name HERBEN-HERBIN-HARBIN, aney and all of them. John & William HERBIN were there 1800-1830, sometimes in seperate households, sometimes in a combined household. In 1830 they were together with 52 in the household, including 14 male slaves & 24 female slaves! Which also makes me wonder what Rockingham county was like. Would that have been a tobacco area or what that they had that needed that much help? Any help would be appreciated in sorting out this family. Joan Marie in Oregon

    2. John B. Summers
    3. Hi List, I am a new subscriber researching surnames SOMERS, SARTIN. I'm seeking information on the Lick Fork Primitive Baptist Church. My elusive GGGgrandfather, Pharoah Somers, was a member of the church in 1824. I hope to determine some information concerning his parents. The first information I have on him is that he was one of two orphan boys who were indentured to a George Summers in Caswell County, NC in 1799. The boys were Zeri, age 12 and Pharis, age 10. Pharis (I have seen his name in many forms, but I believe his name was Pharoah as that is what is used for his widow's pension application as a veteran of the War of 1812). If anyone has the church's mailing address or telephone number, or any information on Pharoah, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, John -- John B. 1. William Henry Alexander HOWARD
    2. I am seeking information about William H.A. HOWARD. According to the 1925-6 issues of the Bulletin, Journal of the National Association of Teachers in Negro Schools, he was a resident of Rockingham. Two years earlier, he was in Smithfield, Johnston, NC and was principal of the training school there. Before that, he had been associated with Florida A &M C in Tallahassee for almost 15 years and had served a term as Acting President. William was married to Frances McLeon and they had at least one child, a daughter, Harriet. Any help, hints will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ron Batiste (Ronbatiste@aol.com)
