I am searching for any tidbit or clue for Aaron/Aron WILLIAMS, born in Virginia ca 1725, died Rockingham Co. 1794. The WILLIAMS land was just west of present day Wentworth, on or near the Eagle Falls Road. His will names daughter Lucy/Lucinda WALL, wife of John WALL and son Drury WILLIAMS. Also named are his grandchildren, Rebecca, Miller, (Milly?) Lucinda , Claborne and John WALL, also Drury WILLIAMS Jr. Is this the same Drury Williams that migrated to Kentucky? I have found wills for Aaron WILLIAMS in Northumberland County and Halifax Co. VA. I suspect that my Aaron was from Halifax County, but no proof. Any help would certainly be appreciated! Louise
Calender Smith lived in a Moravian town in Rockingham County. I can't remember the name of the town. I think I saw somewhere that there is a special website for Moravian information. Do any of you know about it? Bev

I have received a copy of the book Heritage of Rockingham County, NC that was published by the Rockingham County Historical Society in 1983. The interlibrary loan found one at the UNC Library in Greensboro. It is a wonderful edition! I can see why copies are not showing up at sales....it is certainly a keeper! I found articles about our family lines, but made only one direct connection...that of Mintoria Richardson and her husband Bob Smith. I am hoping you Rockingham County researchers can help me to connect these family members: Calender S. SMITH born 1822 Rockingham County, NC died 1894 Rockingham County, NC married Martha SHREVE on Aug 14, 1845 in Rockingham County. Martha SHREVE was born Jan 18, 1825 in Rockingham County. Robert Hunter SMITH born March 28, 1886 in Avalon, NC died March 26, 1980 in Martinsville, VA married Estelle SHROPSHIRE Jan 3, 1909 in Avalon, NC Estelle SHROPSHIRE was born Mar 3, 1892 in Madison, NC and died Feb 3, 1988 in Martinsville, VA. I saw Sanford O. LIPFORD's name in the book and his wife's family connections, but no LIPFORD article. Does anyone have any information on the LIPFORD line in that County? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Beverly L. Yeager
Cindy! My response to you bounced back as a permanent failure....Did you find any Polly (or Mary) Sheltons married to a ? Durant? Or a female Shelton married to a Polly Durant. There was a will written by this female's father which named male inheritors. One was a Polly Durant, so I'm thinking this is the man who married my female Shelton. Anything you can tell me would be great. They lived in Rockingham county. I didn't mean anything bad about that post. I figured I might be able to reach you on the list, since my mail to you bounced back. I also figured that maybe your source was incomplete. We do come across that sometimes in our search for our relatives. I was not blaming you, but thought maybe you should check the source a little closer to see what was going on. And if you still don't find anything, that's okay. We all hit brick walls every now and then. happy hunting, thanks, Tina Hall tina.hall@ior.com Steve and Tina's web site: http://www.ior.com/~shall/ Visit Tina's Genealogy page at: http://members.xoom.com/tina_hall/ -----Original Message----- From: Cindy Goad <jimgoad@hpe.infi.net> To: NCROCKHA-L@rootsweb.com <NCROCKHA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, February 11, 1999 4:01 AM Subject: [NCROCKHA-L] Rockingham Co Marriage Bond Lookups >This is an apology to the list. This is an apology to the list. I received a request from someone looking for a Marriage Bond for a Shelton. I told them there were no Sheltons listed. This was my mistake, I had pulled up the wrong county. I hope I did not cause anyone a problem. We all make mistakes, and when you have lived as long as I have, maybe I make more than my share. Again I am sorry. My bonds were copied from those on file in the NC Archives. Cindy

Desparately seeking confirmation of parents of Ellen McCubbin Max Coppage has theorized that she was the daughter of Nicholas McCubbins and Mary Clare CARROLL. born 1727 Others have not had her listed as their child. Recently I have seen two web pages that list an Ellen MCCUBBINS as daughter of Zachariah MCCUBBINS born 1752 in MD and SARAH LANE born 1754 Lunenberg VA. Nicholas and Zachariah were possibly brothers. the problem is that Ellen daughter of ZACHARIAH married a Nathaniel McNabb NOT William STEPHENS born 1775-1777 in Rockingham CO NC Did she have two husbands? Good evening, This is my first post to your list, thanks for having me. This is the family line I'm looking for. From the 1850 Tallapoosa county AL census: RH Bartlet 38 farmer born in NC, Ann K 40 NC, James 18 NC, ?Jasper 13 NC and Robert M 7 NC. Just down the street is John Bartlet 23 farmer NC, Almira ?21 GA & William 6 AL. In RH Bartletts house is Mary 22 GA, Robert M 16 NC, George 5 AL, Joel T 2 AL & John A 4months AL (John is my ggrandfather). Next door is HR Bartlett 21 GA, Sarah M 20 GA & Mary 2 AL. Then there's Henry (could this be RH's father) 60 NC, Sarah 37 GA, Louisa M 19 GA, Caroline 13 GA, Susan 11 GA, Sarah 5 AL & Robert 2 AL. Hi, I am looking for any information on Websters. My grandmother was a Webster and her family origionated in Rockingham Co. or so we are told. Webster b. 1851 in N.C. d. unknown married: Eliza Jane Sharp Father of Wiley: William Webster b. 1806 in N.C. d. unknown married: Anna Ray 3/30/1830 in Orange Co. My grandmother, daughter of William Thomas was born in Rockingham Co. as was most of Wiley's children. Hi everyone... Does anyone have any information about William Martin who married Sarah Dodd, 28 May 1794, Rockingham County. Were William's parents James and Rebecca Martin? Thanks, Mary

I received a very nice letter from the secretary of the Rockingham County Historical Society, thanking us for the interest in the book, but stating that there are no plans to reprint at this time. He said that the books are not showing up at estate sales, etc., so people are holding onto their copies. :( I am trying to see a copy thru inter-library loan, so no luck so far. Beverly
I would greatly appreciated any information on the surnames of MARTIN, CARR, FULLER, BLANKINSHIP, STRIBLING, LECROY. Thank you, Ann Evans MAEvans415@aol.com

Cathy >> Cathy here in Kentucky we have a Division of Vital Records, State Department of Health, 275 East Main Street, Frankfort, KY 40601 where death and birth records have been kept since 1911. I got this information from my Handy Book for Genealogists and a similar address is not mentioned under North Carolina. If no one on the list has the answer for NC, my daughter may have an address as works for the state. Sincerely Warren
I just received my Grandmother Minnie Mae Alcorn's Social Security Application, that was applied for under my Grandpa's name. Now, should I take the info here as the gospel. The last name is spelled different, the birthdate is off a few days, place of birth in Rockingham than what I knew it to be, AND her mothers name is different altogether. James R. Alcorn was known to be married to a Louisa Lovins at some time. Maybe there were to James R. Alcorns in Rockingham County. Then the Rockingham Heritage Book says James R. Alcorn married to Mary Gibson with children John Will, James Roland, Bob, Mary, Latisia, Minnie, and Elizabeth. WELL, Grannies SS aplication list her mother as Elezbeth Gibson (probably Mary). NOW, can Lucy be short for Elezbeth. All this time I swore her mother had to be Louisa Lovins because of the nickname Lucy. Since Grannie was old, I wonder if she just put her Dads wife down as mother. I do know Grannie was a young child when her mother died. How do I search for a birth record for her? Cathy
