    3. There was a Col. James Martin on Snow Creek, whose daughter married a Settle. Gov. Alexander Martin built a home named "Danbury" on the Dan River at Jacob's Creek. This is a different family, according to the book "Early Families..." Vol. 1 p. 74. In your line, there is a will for the son James Probated 1804. Mother listed as Rebecca. Sister Rebecca given as Rebecca Martin in will. Believe sister Nancy married a Coleman Winchester, whose will was probated 1835. His property was next to that of Enoch Martin. The will for the elder James is in old Wills p. 141, died 1799, according to data in vol. 2 of "Early Families..." p. 107. Daughter Sarah who married a Rhodes. The Martins lived next to the John Rhodes family. You may be able to track land records for more data. This is disconnected, but hope it helps. Robin Taylor

    1. [NCROCKHA-L] Blum Potts Howard James
    2. Liz Brummond
    3. I am currently researching the roots of my family, the Blums. Below is some of the information I have... George Abraham (possibly Alexander) Blum (son of John David Blum of Salem?) married Elizabeth Potts and lived in Davie County. He had a sister named Charlotte who is buried in the Bethlehem Methodist Church in Davie. George and Elizabeth had two children here, Lewis and Sarah. During the Civil War, they moved to Indiana and left George's land (my cousin told me some still refer to the 140+/- acres as the "Old Blum Place") in care of Charlotte. She married a carpetbagger (name unknown) and sold his property. When he returned, he was a pauper. His burial place is unknown. When they returned from Indiana, they had Calvin Nathaniel. There is some curiosity as to whether he was adopted since, in one census, he is listed as age 13 and his mother 63. Calvin Nathaniel Blum married Carra Emma Howard (nee James) December 25, 1889? (first child was born March 29, 1890 and yes, she was noticably pregnant in her wedding picture from my cousin's account). He moved to Rockingham County to raise tobacco, was fairly successful and died of either typhoid or cancer at an early age. But he had a penchant for mortgaging things; my cousin has a note where he mortgaged his wife's mother's family's cow and bedpost. (James). Carra Emma lived into the 1930s and had colon cancer. Both are buried at Sharon (spelling?) Church in Rockingham County. They had Ada, Etta, John, Lofton, George, Kelly and Samuel. Any information, stories, recollections those on the list may have would be greatly appreciated.

    3. I believe I have some data on the Donnells of Guilford Co. My great-aunt, Adelaide Cade Donnell was from Greensboro, Guilford Co. The Donnell home is where the Sears warehouse was located later on - don't know if it is still in the same site. Some info in the Greensboro Museum. They helped found several churches in Greensboro-I believe are buried in the cemetery near the First Presbyterian Church. Robin Taylor
