Guy Lewis compiled information on the Lewis family and presented it to the Stoneville Public Library in Stoneville, Rockingham Co., NC. There are still Lewis descendants living in Stoneville, the Wyatt family. One of the sons is city engineer. Have you checked there? William Langston Lewis and Sarah Mariah Pratt Lewis are buried in Hegge Memorial Cemetery south of Stoneville on Mayo (Now Baughm's) Mountain. Robin Taylor

Thought I might ask for some help in identifying a possible relative. Maurice Roach, born 16 Sept.1899 died Aug 1968 in zip code for EDEN N.C. according to the Social Security Death Index. What makes me think that this is the one I'm looking for is that his card was issued in Michigan. I had a great aunt Vera Turner who was married to Maurice Roach who was from N.C. He worked in Flint Michigan at one of the auto factorys. They use to come visit my grandmother about ever two years. He would take a leave and do the tent and home revivals through this area. I think I rember him being some sort of preacher. Vera died in the late forties or early fifties. I think she was still in Flint Mich. at that time. I remember her death but can't remember. They had no children. Just this past week I learned she had a previous marriage in 1917 at the age of 14. Do not know what happened to the first husband or where she married Maurice. Maurice came by a few times after the death of his wife Vera. The last contact was in 1961. I would appreciate if some one could help me unraveling this mystery. I'm trying to see if I can find a paper that might have an obit in it. thanks for your help Bob Hamilton

Does this name ring a bell with anyone? She was the daughter of Andrew J. Odell and Laura F. Sams. She was marrid to an unknown Mitchell and widowed by age 22. She had 2chidren by him: Willie G. Mitchell (b. Sept 1894)and Ruth E. Mitchell (b. May 1897). If anyone could provide her husbands name or further information I would be most appreciative. Truman Adkins
Looking for information on George Abraham Blum, born August 12, 1820 to Johann David Blum and Sarah Hege in Forsyth County. Married Elisabeth (or Elizabeth) Potts. Had 3 children, Sarah, Lewis and Calvin Nathaniel who was born <1875 in Reidsville? The information I need is what happened to George Abraham. I know he was given about 100+/- acres of land in/near Davie County by his brother. During the Civil War, since he was a Moravian, he took his family to Indiana (county unknown) and he left the land in care of his sister, Charlotte (listed in some places as Susanna Charlotte) who married a Smith. They failed to pay the taxes on it and when George Abraham returned with his wife and children, he found himself to be a pauper. The last census I can find him in is the 1860 Davie County Census. I would like to know where he is buried if possible plus any additional information you may have on this family line. Thanks! Liz Blum Brummond Blum-Potts-Howard-Hege-Fleming-Parham
I thought you might be interested in knowing that the LDS site offers genealogy lists. You can start a list for a general surname or for a specific ancestor. There are also area lists. So you can specify, for example, HALLs in SE USA or HALLs SC>AL>MS or HALL, James C. b 1824 AL....the possibilities are almost endless. These lists are "managed" through the LDS site, so when you start one, you don't have to maintain it. To check out this site, go to: http://www.familysearch.com and click on "Collaborate With Others". This site just keeps getting better and better!! If anyone can do a lookup for a marriage abt. 1875 of a Charles W. Hardy and Amanda Frances Hunter in Rockingham Co. it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David Hardy Atlanta GA.
I just wanted to make a correction to the post made last week by Robin Taylor, which stated: >"There was a Col. James Martin on Snow Creek, whose daughter married a >Settle....... " Col. James MARTIN, of Snow Creek Plantation (Stokes Co., NC) had a total of 16 children; however, I'm not aware of any of his children marrying a SETTLE. You may be confusing Col. James Martin with his brother, Robert Martin (c1750-1822) of Rockingham Co., whose son, Robert D. Martin, Jr. (1784-1848) married Mary SETTLE on 7 April 1798. Both Col. James and Robert Martin, Sr. were brothers of my 5th GGF, Governor Alexander Martin (c1738-1807) who built the Danbury Plantation on the Dan River at Jacobs Creek, Rockingham Co. I know that they are all available at the Madison Library Research Room in Madison, Rockingham County. A copy of each has also been given to the Genealogy Room, Messanine, of the NC State Library, Archives Building, Raleigh. I imagine some of them are in many other libraries in scattered locations. I am quite sure the Madison Library has the best genealogy collection in the county, because of the dedicated efforts of members of several local groups-DAR, UDC, RSGS-who are continually buying or donating materials both individually and by the societies. I do have to admit I have not been in the other branches to do research recently. Another remarkable facility is the Bassett Library, Bassett VA. Hopes this helps. Jane W. Momjeb@aol.com wrote: > > Are any of these publications available for research in any library in > Rockingham County? If so, could you elaborate on where? Also, would someone give me there opinion on which library in Rockingham County has the most genealogy information. I would like to visit Rockingham County and do some research. Thank you. Joan
