Hi, Linda, I can't help you, but I sure would be interested to know if a Samuel JOHNSON appears anywhere in your research? The reason I'm asking is because my 3x ggf was Samuel Johnson (not the governor), b ca 1784 in Bladen Co.and who married Sarah DAVIS and who may have been a brother to the Daniel and Joel about whom you are inquiring, but we can't prove it. My uncle is the family historian, and he has been trying to find a connection for years, but has been unable to do so. Samuel and Sarah had a son named Daniel, b 1825 in Bladen Co and who married Mary Ann BUTLER. They certainly could have had one named Joel, but there is no documentation that proves it. Another of their sons, my 2x ggf, Elias DAVIS JOHNSON, b 1828, married Sarah Caroline HUMPHREY and they had sons named Joel Matthew, b 1856 and Daniel Riley, my ggf, b 1860, and logic would indicate they were named for their uncles or great-uncles, but we don't know that. I wish I could have helped answer your question, but maybe my family is another link to yours. They stayed in Bladen and Robeson Co, tho and Uncle Nash is not aware of a TN connection. Daniel Johnson between 1812 to 1818 in NC and Joel Johnson born 1813 to 1815 in NC. Now I am looking for the father and mother and grandparents to these two Johnson's. Maybe in Rutherford Co., NC or Cumberland Coo., NC and then Bloden Co., NC then Buncombe Co., NC. Now I know they were in McMinn Co., TN in 1827 as children. There was a Daniel Johnson who was awarded land in McMinn Co., TN then. Maybe he is the father? Then in the 1830 census report of McMinn Co. There was a Joel Johnson listed as being 50-60 years old..He could have been the father. The number on the census was MC 120 in 1840. Then on the 1840 census was a # MC111 that lists a Joel Johnson as being 30-40 years old with a wife and a male child 0-5 years old. Also on the 1940 census # MC111 was a Daniel Johnson with a wife. They both moved to Bradley co., TN. Daniel and his wife moved in 1850 where Joel Johnson moved in 1840. I sure could use some people who have access to these Counties census in those years. They may be related to the William Johnston Family born 1728. His wife is Elizabeth Hutcheson 1730. He was born in Goochland Co.VA..married 1749 in New Kent, VA He died in 1767 in Charlotte Co., VA. They had 9 children all born in VA. Mary Johnson April 1748 Elliner Born Sept 21, 1750 Usly Born Jan. 20, 1752 Daniel Johnson born Oct. 10, 1754 Thomas Johnson Born 1756 William Johnson born 1758-age 54 when Daniel Johnson was born. Sure could use some expert census readers help here in finding exactely when and Where in NC they were born...then who was their parents who took them to McMinn Co., TN in 1827?
