Much of my research has put me amid the Cumberland County records of the mid and late 1700s. Everything I've seen indicates the Newberrys of Robeson came right from Cumberland. There were Newberrys there in the mid 1700s. They owned land around Fayetteville, just east-southeast of the heart of the city. Cumberland's records are intact and you should start there.
