Found him—right in the area you specify. The reason I know it's in that area is that he is in a list of a neighborhood that contains my own ancestors and I know exactly where they lived. Unfortunately the list only gives the name and value of the person's property. The list itself is not in alphabetical order so it's not unreasonable to assume that those listed near "Neil McCalpin" are his neighbors. Neil McCalpin is listed at a value of 18 pounds, 10 (shillings). His immediate 'neighbors' are Philip Ikner, James Ard, John McCollum on one side, and Alx. Little, James McNeill (my ancestor) and Jas. Biggs on the other side. The only other thing I can say is that Neil McAlpin had very little money compared to his neighbors. I can guess that he lived along the northern arc of the Raft Swamp. which is near Big Marsh. These lands would today be in upper Hoke County, NC, not far from the town of Raeford.
