My gggrandparents John D. McNeill of Cumberland Co.and Mary Walker of Robeson County were married by Frederick Killock Nash in 1854. Cousin Elaine and I looked up Nash and found among other things that his funeral sermon was preached by John Daniel of Gilopolis. I found Gilopolis to be a Robeson County PO from 1844-1866. I would like to know exactly where Gilopolis was located. Please help. Thanks, Jean

Here is some info on Giloplis: >From the book "Away Down Home" Bolivar was established as a post office in 1830 with Daniel McPhaul as the postmaster. Malcolm McPhaul was the second postmaster and served until 1844 when the station was changed to Gilopolis. Giloplis received it's name in 1844 when John Gilchrist, Jr. became the postmaster of Bolivar and changed the name. Also serving as postmasters were John McInnis, Tristram Bethea, John E. McEachern, James C. Medlin, Peter McEachern and Edmund Lilly.
