Some of the surnames that am researching in Robeson County are: McNeil McCraney (various spellings) Brown Hope I can connect. Linda [email protected]
What Browns are you working on? My ancestor was Edmund Brown who was granted land in Bladen, now Robeson, about 1760. His land was near present day Marietta and near SC border. He moved from there to Marlboro County, SC about 1780. I believe that he had a brother, Thomas Brown, who also lived in Bladen. Not the famous Colonel Thomas Brown however. Catherine McLean (b. abt. 1834) (sorry, that's all I know, except Catherine's parents)? 2) Ellen's (TueTweety) webpage has Susanna BROWN (b. 1/13/1809, d. 12/10/1890), m. Rev. Hector McLEAN (b. 8/18/1807, d. 4/3/1889). This is the same as I have (only I thought Susannah was born in July, so someone confused a 1 for a 7 or vice versa). No children, but the 1850 Robeson Co. census says: h. 541, p. 349, Hector McLean, 42, O.S.P. Clergy, NC Susanna, 41, James Davis, 21, Preceptor, SC Florah Brown, 7, s John Brown, 6, s I'm curious as to who these children are... And based on her age of 41, I would guess that January is the correct month for Susanna's birth. Thanks, Jeffrey PS Linda: Let me know if you haven't talked to McCranie researcher Elizabeth Hughes...
