    1. [NCROBESO-L] John & Penny Purcell---Robeson/Cumberland County, NC
    2. Doug Purcell
    3. John and Penny Purcell are listed in the 1850 Robeson County, NC census as paupers. John is age 73 which means he was born c 1777 and Penny is age 70 which means she was born c 1780. Both John and Penny Purcell list their place of birth as North Carolina. Who were the parents of John Purcell and what was Penny Purcell's maiden name? I believe that John Purcell was born in Cumberland County, NC. I theorize that this John Purcell (c 1777-after 1850) was a son of Neill Purcell, Sr. (before 1745 after 1810). Neill Purcell's father was named John Purcell, Sr. (c 1720-before 1785). In addition to Neill, John Purcell, Sr. had the following children: John (c 1750-c 1810); Malcolm (c 1748-c 1776, married Beatrice Torrey); Daniel (c 1755-c 1817, married Marion Munn) and Mary (c 1740-?, married Alexander "Sawney" Graham). John Purcell and his family came to Cumberland County, North Carolina, probably from the Kintyre peninsula area of Scotland, in about 1770. I am interested in any and all information on these Purcell families in Robeson or Cumberland County, NC. Other families connected with the Purcells included: Munn, Malloy, Gilchrist, Torrey, Graham, McPhail, McPhaul and McSwain to name a few. Thanks for any help offered.
