    1. [NCROBESO-L] Bethesda Presbyterian Church 1812 Membership List
    2. Doug Purcell
    3. A friend recently sent me a copy of a letter written by Evander McNair Graham (1836-1908) of Vienna, Louisiana to the Editor of the Christian Observer under date of June 4, 1883. This 1883 letter contained a transcribed copy of a January 20, 1812 membership list for Bethesda Presbyterian Church of Richmond County, North Carolina. The original black "Session Book of Bethesda" was kept by Elder John Purcell Graham (c 1764-1848) who moved to Coosa County, Alabama in 1835 where he helped to form Carolina Presbyterian Church. John Purcell Graham was the grandfather of Evander McNair Graham. Members of Carolina Presbyterian Church later moved to the Ruston, Louisiana area where they formed Alabama Presbyterian Church. There are 104 names on this list (including the given names of three blacks) which I have typed as a Word for Windows doc file. The original of this document is on file at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana in the Graham Family Papers. I will be happy to send this 1812 Bethesda Presbyterian Church membership list to anyone who requests it. The list will be sent as a Word for Windows doc file attachment containing two pages. I would love to hear from any individuals who had ancestors who attended this church in 1812. Also does a history of this church exist?
