Adair served as surgeon to Gen Francis Marion's army during the Rev. War, but was widely known for his book on his claims that the American Indian was descended from one of the lost tribes of Israel. It is said with some authority that he had at least one Indian wife, maybe more, after his wife, Clark Hobson, who he married in July29, 1740 in Northumberland Co.,VA. died.
