You each know your own relatives, but if you are an ODUM, DAVIS, BULLOCK, PREVATT, LOWE or CARLISLE, you can bet your bottom dollar we are kin. ( Not to mention RATLEY, TOWNSEND, BAXLEY, HARRELL and MOORE.) Here are some more little tidbits from this film: Monies received within the time frame of 1868-1891, date not specified: >From D.C. LOWE $5 Richard MOORE $3 Giles DAVIS $.50 >From the minutes: Nov 5 1869 - Bro JP DAVIS asked for a letter for himself and wife and son Furney DAVIS Jan 1st 1870 - Elder Noah MERCER asked for a letter for his son J P MERCER and it was granted Dec 5th 1874 - ....sisters Mary and Easter DAVIS called for letters of dismission from this to Saddletree Church which was granted. [ I omitted a juicy morsel of scandal involving Martha Ann MOORE and Jos RATLY] Sept 2 1876 - W B ODUM, H P ODUM and Martha ODUM came forward with letters from Clyburn church and was received Sept 30 1876 - Bro William ODUM having a difficulty that needed the attention of this conference. There was a committee appointed to talk with the parties, consisting of D B DOW, William POWELL, John POWELL, D C LOWE, and Alexander BAILY. [Whatever this case was, it involved William TOWNSEND, and it was never disclosed as to what it was, only that it was settled on Dec 2 1876] Dec 1 1877 - ....Bro Charles W ODUM was granted a letter of Dismission to join any other church of the same faith and order. Aug 31, 1878- male members called. Absentees noted as follows, Georg ODUM, L B BULLOCK, Stephen TOWNSEND and Erastus ODUM. [After reading many, many more of these minutes, I have to say this: my 2x ggf, W B ODUM must have been a quarrelsome man, because he keeps getting into trouble!] Feb 5 1881 - charges against Hector CARLYLE for dancing. Standing committee to cite him to answer next conference. December 1881 - R BULLOCK having built a Cooking Shop on the church land, the church gave him leave to move it. J. E. CARLYLE was received by letter from Saddle Tree Church. August 5, 1882 - Brother J D CLARK then tendered his resignation as pastor of this church. Sept 1882 - The committee to select a pastor continued. The church then gives Brother (Elias DAVIS) JOHNSON a call. Oct 1882 - ...Brother JOHNSON excepted (sic) the call. **[the Rev JOHNSON is my 2x ggf] On the first Sabbath in June 1884, the Presbytery met with the Raft Swamp Church and examined John PREVATT for ordination to the full work of the Gospel Ministry. The examination was conducted by Elder F PREVATT and Elder E. D. JOHNSON. After the examination the ordination sermon was preached by Elder PREVATT from 2nd Timothy 2nd chapter and 15th verse. (Study to show thyself approved unto God). Eld E. D. JOHNSON lead in the ordination Prayer and delivered the charge. Elder F. PREVATT presented the Bible. Benediction by John PREVATT. I can honestly say that having read the Minutes, I felt as if I really had an insight to my relatives as people, not just names. If any of you have not seen this film, it is a marvelous chance to humanize your ancestors, and I recommend viewing it. Lynn in Baltimore [email protected]

    3. Lynn, I'm enjoying the Raft Sw info - all my folks are on it. I seen some list but not the ones you have. I'm connected to Tyners, Townsends, Odoms, Prevattes and on and on. Thanks again for sharing.
