    1. Re: [NCROBESO] Name of Cemetery Wanted
    2. I just sent Christie the information that she wanted in her lineage. The name of her particular cemetery is MACRAE and it is 2.7 miles from Maxton. The information came from Vanishing Ancestors compiled by Peggy Townsend. I do not think that she has posted her three volume set of information. The Robeson County library in Lumberton should have a set if you are closeby. I have the set and will be glad to help you. Give me one or two people with as much info as you have and I will check and e-mail with the information that I find within the set. Tonight I found a Jacob Wiley Alford b. Sept. 12, 1875 and D August 2, 1918 and Flora C. McCormic wife of Jacob W. Alford, B. March 27, 1879 D, June 9, 1963. This information was found in the St. Pauls Presbyterian Church Cemetery Vol.3. Let me know if I can be of help to you. 2. Christie, The name of the cemetery that you are looking for is named MCRAE and it is located on hwy. 130 S 2.7 miles from Maxton, N.C. I found all of these names in Vanishing Ancestors Volume Two compiled by Peggy Townsend 1979 reprinted in 1994. They were located on page 121 in the order that you gave except the Catharine is listed before Daniel. There was additional information on the tombstones and the additions are as follows: 1. Aged 29 yes 6 m 18 days 2. in his 29th year 3. Catharine90 yes 5 m 28 days 4. age 63 years Hope this is what you needed. If not, let me know. Wayne A. 2. Joanne, I don't know if this will do you any good, but here are the other names I copied down. I copied these last fall, and I didn't stay for very long. The grass inside the cemetery was almost knee high, and there was a ditch nearby, so I was afraid that I would get on a water moccasin or a September rattler. (I also stepped over a dead possum as I went in the gate!) * P. F. McRae, 1873 - 1918 * William A. McRae, 8/15/1866 - 8/21/1941 * M. H. McRae, 2/2/1864 - 3/14/1918 * John A. McRae, 3/15/1827 - 2/1/1907 * Jane Gilchrist McRae, (wife of John A. McRae), 12/27/1833 - 7/23/1907 * Mary, daug. of John & Christian McRae, 7/21/1824 - 12/8/1897 * William McRae, 9/8/1822 - 12/21/1894 * John Knox McRae, 7/15/1869 - 7/2/1947 * Malcolm W. McRae, 51 NC INF CSA, 12/28/1839 - 3/27/1912 * Nannie McRae, (wife of Malcolm W. McRae), 4/11/1851 - 1/25/1914 * Mary W. McRae, wife of M. W. I seemed to have lost the paper that I copied the Websters down on, so I guess the possums got it! Christie

    2. The McRae Cemetery No. 101 in Peggy Townsend's " Vanishing Ancestors" Volumn 2, is located 2.7 mile South from Maxton, N. C. on Hwy 130. McRae's, McFarlands, Caddell's and many more Mc's buried here. Hope this helps. Jimmy D. Howell, Ocean Isle Beach, N. C. _fishingem@aol.com_ (mailto:fishingem@aol.com)

    3. I am also interested in who might be in this cemetery. My 3rd great grandmother was Katherine Macrae, (daughter of Roderick MacRae ,buried at McLucas) married to Jacob Alford of Alfordsville, NC. She had two daughters that married into the MacLeod line of Marlboro. Plus, I had Patricks nearby.. so I was wondering if this cemetery might be online somewhere. Does it have a name?? I noticed that there was a MacLeod Rd. that ran off of the main road. Would appreciate any help with the MacRae's ,Alfords, & Patricks. I am actually looking for a William WEST who was alive 1800. The segment from Bacon's Rebellion is very interesting. Perhaps it will provide a starting point for attempting to connect this WEST line to Isle of Wight Co., VA. BTW: Arthur BRASWELL witnessed a Robeson County deed of gift from James WEST to James' son, William, 8 August 1794. Thank you.

    3. Don't know if this is who you are talking about. Rebecca Braswell, born 1647 Isle of Wight, Virginia, died 1700 Isle of Wight, Virginia, married about 1668 William West. William West and Robert Stokes were true patriots and took up arms against Governor Berkley's troops in 1676 in an effort to oppose the Governor's mismanagement of affairs, his unequal taxation, unjust tobacco duties, and unfair voting system. William West's father, Henry West, had been murdered by the Indians. It was during the Bacon Rebellion under the leadership of Nathaniel Bacon that William West and Robert Stokes were among the rebels. Robert Morris' Journal 15 January 1677: "Advice that West and others were in arms for the rebels and intended to surprise the fort." William West was captured 16 January 1677, but managed to escape. Richard Braswell, brother-in-law of William West supported Bacon's cause and petitioned the Commissioners for West's release. Petition dated October, 1677 -- "Petition of His Majesties most loyal and obedient subjects of Isle of Wight to His Majesties Commissioners, in behalf of William West, a rebel absconding, who took up arms against the Indians by who his father had been most barbarously murdered, was taken prisoner and carried aboard a ship, from hence to prison and was condemned to death, but had made his escape and as yet has not been found. We pray for his life and the restitution of his estate to his wife and children." Calendar State Papers, Volume 39, Folio 85. Public Records Office, London. William West will is recorded in Isle of Wight County, Virginia Wills and Deeds, Volume 2, pages 490-491, and proved 9 February 1708/09. Children: William, Richard, Robert, Mary Green, Rebecca, and my loving wife not named. William must have married a second time after the death of Rebecca. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fran" <awkoska@adelphia.net> To: <NCROBESO@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 6:20 PM Subject: [NCROBESO] 1800 William West > Would like to correspond with anyone researching William WEST who was in > Robeson by 1797. 3. Hi, I am seeking information on Grover Preston Miller and his family. G. P. Miller was born in Robeson County, NC and died in Bulloch County on 9 Aug 1950. His spouse was a Hattie Bullard also from Robeson County, NC. Hattie died 20 Aug 1941 in Bulloch Co, GA. Both are buried in the Hendrix Cemetery in Bulloch County. Her obituary as follows: MRS. G. P. MILLER Mrs. G. P. Miller, age 76, died suddenly at her home near Rocky Ford Wednesday afternnon. Interment will be at the Hendrix cemetery this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters and four sons. Source: Bulloch Times and Statesboro News, Statesboro, GA (Thursday, August 21, 1941) The obituary mentions that she had 4 sons and 5 daughters. I do not have an obituary for Gover Preston Miller. His death record in Bulloch County reflects G. P. Miller. Census entries reflect: Preston (1880, Robeson Co, NC) Gilford Miller (1900, Robeson Co, NC); Press Miller (1910, Robeson Co, NC) G. R. Miller (1920, Robeson Co, NC) and Gilford P. Miller (1930, Bulloch Co, GA). Was his first name Grover or Gilford? I have six children all born in Robeson County, NC. Alexander Carl Miller (21 Jan 1896), Lela Miller (3 Dec 1897) , William (Willie) Pope Miller (5 Jul 1900) , Earl Pittman Miller (5 Jan 1902), Bertha Miller (28 Sep 1903) and Mattie Miller (13 Jul 1905). I would like additional information on these families and their descendants. Your assistance is this matter would be greatly appreciated. Stephen Carroll Pearsall
