    3. I have been searching for my Great Great Grandfather's grave in Robeson County. I found his information in one of Peggy Townsend's books, his name is Jefferson Augusta Chason Born: 7 Sep 1859 and Died: 5 Mar 1907. We have made several trips to the Lumber Bridge area trying to locate the cemetery; but have been unsuccessful. I even had the map out of the book. I did find a Chason Family Cemetery, but I couldn't find his plot. A local man told us there was another Chason Family Cemetery but he couldn't remember which direction to show us. Would anyone know the location to this cemetery? 3. Hi there, your state archival institution should be able to give you some guidance on this. In SC: http://www.state.sc.us/scdah/ If you send a question to the main library they should be able to direct you to the right people. At the very least they can suggest steps for you to take toward preservation, but they may also be able to guide you on possible grant money that might be available, and if the records are of interest for genie research they may even offer to help in exchange for being able to add digital or microfilm copies to their collection. Either way, it's a good place to start. hth GB -----Original Message----- From: ncrobeso-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ncrobeso-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of LParker104@sc.rr.com Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 6:07 PM To: ncrobeso@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCROBESO] Old documents Our church has some really old documents that we need to copy and preserve. 3. Dear Libby, you have received good answers about talking to various folks who do archiving as a profession. I'd suggest you work with them, but also try a few things yourself. For example, you could scan in documents and see how that works. Or use a digital camera and take pictures of them. Then save the images (from the scanner or the camera) on a CD or DVD. I have done this with every document I have, and one copy of the CD is in a safe deposit box! When I need to add to it, I write two new ones, one for home and one for the safe deposit box. Now that I can write DVDs I'll switch to archiving on two of those. But every picture we've taken since we purchased our first digital camera is archived that way. I talked to someone about what sort of sleeves you can store documents in. Everyone I have talked to has said to use clear sleeves that say on the box they are for archival. Everything I have put in a sleeve I have also either scanned in or taken a photograph of or both. Since I live where there was a large forest fire that destroyed over 40,000 acres and 400 homes about 6.5 years ago, I am pretty paranoid about saving documents and pictures. 3. Hi, I am trying to track down more information on my paternal grandmother's brother, Lawrence A. King. He was born in March 1883 in Robeson County, NC, the son of William Edward ("Eddie") King and Margret J. Edwards King. The family moved to Marion County, SC to that part which became Dillon County, SC. In 1910 he and his wife Addie (?) and their daughter lived with his Hamilton parents-in-law in Dillon where he worked in the local cotton mill. His sister Donnie Nettie King lived with them. In the 1930s he and his family lived in Weldon, Halifax County, NC. I would love to hear from anyone who has more information on this King family. Thanks, Sharlotte Neely Donnelly donnelly@one.net http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly

    2. Joanne, Sorry for the delay but I do not open the computer every day because if I did I would get nothing else accomplished. There is no specific time frame for the graves within the Vanishing Ancestor set. Time is determined by the individual cemetery and and gravesites within them. The area covered is Robeson county and some of Hoke, with this county having been formed in 1911 from Robeson. Mrs. Townsend recorded 397 cemeteries and describes many of them as "lost family plots". She also states that these are not all of the cemeteries within the two counties but the set should be "useful for those searching for their Scottish ancestors. Hope this explains things!
