    3. I can not tell you for sure as I do not have that much information on the Lee family of Robeson, but it seems logical that his father might be Jesse Jr. because he has a wife Jane Graham and she died around 1810. My line comes from Jesse Lee Sr's daughter Penelope. I can send you an attachment with my notes and sources if you like and send your correct e-mail address. 2. I searching for parentage of John Lee, Born 4/8/1802 in Robeson Co..NC. I believe father may be Jessie(Jesse) due to fact that John's first son was named Jesse and the naming tradition in those days was to name first born son after Husband's father. I have been unable to prove this. John married Susan Sutton 3/28/1826, they had three children Jesse, Annie Jane (both born in Robeson Co.) and Benjamin born in Stewart Co., GA, where they had moved. Susan died in July 1834 and John remarried Malissa Ann Paulk 12/8/1834 (in Stewart Co...). They had 14 children,(after moving to Southern, AL) one of whom is my great-grandmother Mary Ann Lee Hammonds(married Lafayette Hammonds). Any information would be gladly information appreciated. Former Mayor Ira Hobbs Warwick, 72, of Orrum, was killed this afternoon when he walked into the path of a Lumberton bound bus on the old Belt Line highway at Orrum. Mr. Warwick, a native of Orrum and member of one of the oldest South Robeson families, had purchased a bus ticket for Greensboro, where relatives said, he planned to visit a son, and was crossing the highway at the Orrum high school stop when he was struck by the bus. 1. [NCROBESO] Important note about emails
    2. Steve E.
    3. Just a heads-up to everyone--- When sending your email address in an email or even putting it on your own website, you should not type it as you see it in the following example: 234johnxx@aol.com. Spiders, web bots, etc "crawl" the net looking for email addresses to collect and use in scamming and spamming and junk mail. This is not a joke; these little crafty critters are programmed programs that are designed to do just that. So, if you can think of it, type your email (and certainly anyone else's email) thus: 234johnxx at aol dot com You may get less junk mail out of the effort. Happy Turkey, Steve Edgerton

    2. Steve E.
    3. Christie, Owen Lowrie is in the 1850 census too. He was 40 years old, born in Robeson. He was head of household. Susan Lowrie, age 40, born Brunswick Co, NC. Sarah A. Lowrie, age 19, born Robeson. Wm. Lowrie, age 19, born Robeson. Dian A. Lowrie, age 15, born Robeson. Dames Lowrie, age 12, born Robeson. Susan Lowrie, age 10, born Robeson. John P. Lowrie, age 6, born Robeson. Murdock Lowrie, age 1, born Robeson. Owen Lowrie is living next door to Zion Lowrie and his big family (no wife, probably dead), and one household down from Zion is Daniel Lowrie and his wife Betsey and their family. Nextdoor to Daniel and Betsey is Feriba Lowrie and two little children. All these neighbors were born in Robeson. All this information is from the 1850 census of Robeson Co. As a note, none of these people were living anywhere near Henry Berry Lowrie and his people. Also, the name Murdock is unusual. Henry Berry Lowry's brother Murdock Lowry (sons of Allen Lowry and Mary "Polly" Cumbo), went to Tennessee but I don't know what year. Murdock was born between 1821 and 1848. I'm just going by notes in my deceased brother's notebook. Other folks doing research on HBL's family have probably made more progress. It could be that Dianna never married, but had children. But don't despair--if she owned land she may have either a will or an estate settlement. If she didn't have a will but had land to give to her children, then she probably had an estate settlement. The county would divide the land for the family and give each child his or her fair share. I think Lumberton has some estates records, but the archives in Raleigh definitely has them. 3. Hey Graveyard Gal, I have some Lowry family information that was collected by my brother, Jay Edgerton, back in the '60s and 70s from the 1850 Robeson County Census. It shows an Archibald Lowrie aged 23 born in Robeson as head of household. Also in the household is Winny Lowrie, aged 26 born in Richmond County, NC, and Margaret Lowrie aged 6 born in Robeson County. Could this be your Archibald's family? This is all I know. No, more than likely estates records/settlements would have been sent long ago to the Department of Archives and History in Columbia, SC. Contact them with the name of your ancestor, the county he died in and ask for his estate records IF he did not have a will. If Eddie had no property (house, money or land) at his death and died without a will (intestate) then he may not have an estate record. A decedant had an estate settlement if he/she died without a will and had immediate family that any property was to go to. So, at his death, the county stepped in and divided the land between widow and/or children or surviving relatives. It was NOT an equitable process and it's wise to remember that this was a different time and a different world. The county court allowed the widow only 1/3 of her husband's estate (called her dowry) and children over 21 got their share right away. Children under 14 had guardians appointed to them even though a parent was still alive. That guardian took oversight of the property until the child was 21---and the guardian had the responsibility of keeping or better yet increasing the value of the property that the child was to inherit, otherwise the court would remove the guardian and try him. Once the age of 14, a child could name his or her own guardian. Widows and children in nearly every case had the contents of the home sold at auction to pay all of the deceased's debts, court costs, etc. If he had a will more than likely he did not have an estate settlement, though if any of the children contested his will then there would definitely be an estate record/settlement. You just have to look in the right places for your ancestor. Donnelly wrote: >Wow, thank you. 3. 1. [NCROBESO] KING, EDWARDS, & PHILLIPS--a mystery!
    2. Donnelly
    3. Hi, I am looking for information on William Edward ("Eddie) King (born 1850) and his wife Margret J. Edwards King (born 1851) who moved from Robeson County, NC to the part of Marion County, SC that eventually became Dillion County, SC. They were married in 1870 in Robeson County. Eddie King's parents were Stark and Jane (maiden name unknown) King. Margret's parents were Eli Edwards and Jane Phillips Edwards. The children of Eddie and Margret King were daughters Dannie E. King, Loula L. King, Mattie E. King, Mary King, Pauline King, and my paternal grandmother Nettie Donnie King Neely Riley. Their sons were Laurence A. King, Lonzo ("Lonnie O.") King, and Ernest B. King (a.k.a. Ernest Robert Cain). QUESTIONS: Where are Eddie and Margret King buried? When did they die? Did Eddie remarry after Margret's death, and, if so, to whom? Does anyone have a photo of them? Thanks, Sharlotte Neely Donnelly http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly donnelly@one.net

    1. [NCROBESO] Alexander C. Britt and Susannah Harper
    2. I have been researching Allen Britt, born about 1819. His father was Alexander C. Britt, born about 1753 in Robeson. I went on-line to see what what known about Alexander's marriage. There are several files about Alexander and his wife, Susannah Harper, born about 1760 or 1790. The information is quite confusing about when their children were born. Susannah had to have been on tough lady. According to the information on-line, if she were born in 1760, she would have been 50 years old when Jane was born in 1810; 59 when Allen was born; 60 when Flora was born; 72 when Appie Jane was born; 76 when Elizabeth was born and then we come to Alexander, Jr. who if the information is correct, Susannah would have been 82!!! When I run her birth date as being 1790, she still would have been quite old in my opinion to have given birth to Alexander, Jr. She would have been 52!!! Has anyone been researching this family and have any other informaiton about this family? My main interest is the marriage of Allen Britt, born about 1819 to Winifred 'Winnie' Willoughby. Willoughby is my family line that I am researching. Thank you for any information you may have. Pat missyblake@juno.com
