Mary, I am looking up the ancestor list below and as I find a listing I send to you in the following format: Surname Cemetery Name Listing Information I feel sure that this will take several e-mailings and I am going to send them as I find them in the look-up so don't panic when you get an incomplete list. Wayne, Bless your heart! You found the ones I was looking for! Hattie and Neill at Mt. Moriah are my great-grandparents that I couldn't find. I probably have all the remaining McKellars listed in Mary Lewis' book on her ancestors so there's really no need for you to go to any more trouble. Her grandmother was Hattie's sister but she had no information on Hattie's descendants until I contacted her. I'm sure she will be just as excited as I am to hear this news. I really, really, really want a set of those books. I emailed the author but haven't heard anything back yet on how to get a set. I'm beating my head against the wall for the McLeans in my family. Do you know how many John McLeans have lived in Robeson County with family members named Catherine, Mary, Flora, Malcolm, or Alexander? I think all of them and there have been the proverbial pot load of John McLeans. Thank you so much for your time. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I wasn't able to find any of the families you were looking for at Alloway in the few listings I found in a book but I will still continue to keep my eyes open for you. Happy Holidays! Hi, I have been looking for my great grandfather Sylvester Horne, the only information that I have on him is: He was born around 1907 in Robeson Co, North Carolina. I kind of assume he died in Philly since my grandmother was born in Philadelphia and his wife died in Philadelphia. I do know from word of mouth that they were estranged when she died. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find him without any dates? Merry Christmas everyone. Anna Adams Anna Adams

Peggy Townsend's "Vanishing Ancestors" series is no longer available for sale, unless you're lucky enough to find them in a used bookstore. I have all three volumes, they are paper backed and getting fragile with age and the use they've gotten. The library at Lumberton has each volume. Hello Mary, I have many listings for McKellar's in a three volume set copyrighted by Peggy Townsend, called Vanishing Ancestors. These are listings of Robeson County North Carolina cemeteries. If you will e-mail the departed that you are seeking, I will look them up in these books. I do have a complete set. As it is the holiday season, I will do this ASAP for you. If you should know where I could find a listing of the internments in Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs, North Carolina, Robeson County, or ever come across such a listing I would be most grateful if you would let me know where I can find the list. Happy holidays and hope that I can help you. The North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh has all three volumes. I bought my own set as a Christmas present to myself years ago. They have helped me find numerous ancestor's graves. The price is meaningless compared to the benefit. If you can find a set, buy it. If you missed "Indian Warriors: The Untold Story of the Civil War" on the History Channel, you can read about part of it in the book Between Two Fires: American Indians in the Civil War by Laurence M. Hauptman which was used as a source for much of the program's content on the Lumbee. The book has three main parts: "The Trans-Mississippi West," "The South," and "The North." "The South" recounts how the Lumbee of NC served as guerrillas in the NC swamp country in 1865 during Sherman's Carolina campaign; the Pamunkey of VA served as river pilots for McClellan's Army of the Potomac in 1862 during the Peninsula campaign; the Catawba of SC served as catchers of runaway slaves and as volunteers for the Army of Northern Virginia; and the Eastern Band of Cherokee served rangers for Confederacy to guard mountain passes and hinder Union operations in the Smokies.
