Yes his wife died in Philly also. But from what I understand, she was estranged from him at the time of her death. Alverta her daughter stayed in Philadelphia and died 16 Feb 1979. Other children, who I haven't been sure if they are their children are Lottie, Mary, Smutha, Gladys Horne and Jack and Paul McKinnon. I haven't been able to prove one way or another that they were Betty and Sylvester's children. But they were all from Robeson Co. I have run up against a brick wall with Sylvester, what I have been told is he wasn't liked by the family and he treated Betty badly. Those who are alive and remember him, can't remember anything about his family, becasue they didn't like him. There are only 2 places where I have found his name: 1 on my grandmother's birth certificate and on the 1930 Philadelphia Census under Hane instead of Horne. In the 1930 census they have Sylvester from North Carolina and His parents from Georgia. Hi Wanda, Sylvester is kind of sketchy for me, he has been a hard one to find. the names that I mentioned in my post are the only ones that I know of. I do know that he married Betty McKinnon also from Robeson County. I have him and Betty in Philadelphia in the 1930, but I found nothing about the before or after then. Do any of the names mentioned sound familiar? My search for the Horne's stops with him, haven't been able to get far. ----- Original Message ----- From: "wanda miller" <sojourner52@yahoo.com> To: <ncrobeso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 23, 2007 9:00 PM Subject: Re: [NCROBESO] Horne, Sylvester >I am a descendant of the Horne family in robeson county, but I dont know >that name. Hi, Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Would anyone have any information on the birth of Sylvester Horne, Listed sometimes as Hane? The only thing I have been able to find is that he was born about 1907 in Robeson County. Below is what I have on him, the children, I am unsure of. Sylvester HORNE: He was born in 1907 in Robeson, North Carolina, and he died in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania. He married Betty L. MCKINNON on 1925, and had the following children: Mary , Smutha , Gladys, Lottie , Jack , Paul, and Alverta. His parents were Unknown HORNE , and Unknown Unknown. Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this family. Anna Adams
I am a descendant of the Horne family in robeson county, but I dont know that name. My family lived mostly in Fairmont. Do you know when he went to Pennsylvania? If you had some other names maybe I could make a connection. I am descended from Lou Ella Horne Lupo (b. 1879) daughter of Alex (b. 1856) and Louraney Horne. Alex was the son of Elias John and Anna Jane Hayes Horne. E.J. was the son of Hardy and Annis Hill Horne. Hardy was the son of William and Jane Smith Horne. I have the children of E.J. and Alex, but not the grandchildren. there are a couple of Horne family cemeteries on Sand Rock Rd in Fairmont. Marion - sorry for being late in responding. In brief, the Scots settlers wound up in the Cape Fear settlements (Cambellstown, now Fayetteville, because they were the late in the emigration process, and the Cape Fear River was late to be opened to settlement. Many spoke Gaelic, and did so until the 1860's. There are excellent materials available on the topic, and all very interesting. regards, Michael T McAlpin ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Michael, I'd like to know more about the "Gaelic speaking" communities of Bladen County, having grown up in Robeson County but never being aware of my Scottish/Welsh/English ancestry at the time. I suppose all the "transplanted" Scots spoke Gaelic and only later were those in Britain forced to speak English (after the Pretender's defeat). Kilmartin - my 5th GGrandfather was a teacher the Ford there. Beautiful area, been there several times. the old home was just between Loch Awe and Loch Ederline. My 4th GGrandfather was in the Highland Infantry (71st, then promoted and transferred to the 74th). He came over in 1778, fought under Cornwallis, wounded several times. Took the oath of allegience to the US after Yorktown, and "set out on foot" to the Gaelic speaking communities of Bladen County (now Robeson county) North Carolina. I'll send a CD tomorrow. I am a Robeson County, North Carolina native. My grandmother was born in Robeson County and all of her ancestors--as far as my family and I have been able to determine--were of Scottish origin. I have a lot background on most all of these families, some of which you can find on my website, http://www.capefearclans.com. The subject of my website is the family and descendants of John McPherson of the 1739 Argyll Colony of the Cape Fear area. I have researched John McPherson and his descendants quite well, and there was a tremendous amount of information on him to be found (and perhaps much more), personally and legally. Sadly, the most telling thing about him is that he left no record of his wife's name.... Dear Michael, Many thanks for this- I'd be very interested to find out more- your surname is an Argyll area surname I think, and I wondered if your family hail from western Scotland originally? Do drop me a CD if you'd like to! Dear Jenni, Thank you for your notice! I am not certain what I could offer but I would love to speak with you sometime; perhaps I can offer some interest to any program being planned on your side of the pond. If you'd like to speak with me, I am available most any evening after 7pm to 10pm at 919-836-5328 (not a cell phone, but a land line). Sincerely, Steve Edgerton Jenni Butterworth wrote: >Hello!
