Sorry there is no mention of an Edmund Brown on any of the information I have. The information I have starts with a paragraph that says this information came from the Brown Papers collection at the Perkins Library at Duke Univeresity. It tells a little about a Hugh Brown {brother of Ducan Brown listed on my web site.} that came to Cumberland County about 1745/6 from Clachan Seil, Isle of Seil, Scotland and later lived in Robeson County. He died in 1794 Oct of 1794. He was married twice and had children from both marriages. His second wife was Mary Buie from Jura, Scotland. Sorry it doesnt list any of their children. I hope this gives you a good lead. Ellen

    1. [NCROBESO-L] Surname HAWL/HALL/HOWELL/HOWE
    2. I am looking for any info on an Emelia Jane HAWL born about 1834 in NC who married Alexander Willoughby in 1853. I found her maiden name HAWL in the NC marriage records microfiche. There are no Hawls in the Robeson 1850 or 1860 census records. My thinking is that her name may not have been recorded correctly or transcribed incorrectly - I have looked at all soundex equivalents of Hawl with no luck. She apparently died between 1860-1870 per the Robeson County census, as Alexander Willoughby lives alone with their children James Leonard and Susan Harriett in the 1870 census. Would love to know if anyone has an Emelia Jane about age 16 in the 1850 Robeson County census. Thanks! Beth

    3. What Browns are you working on? My ancestor was Edmund Brown who was granted land in Bladen, now Robeson, about 1760. His land was near present day Marietta and near SC border. He moved from there to Marlboro County, SC about 1780. I believe that he had a brother, Thomas Brown, who also lived in Bladen. Not the famous Colonel Thomas Brown however.
