Looking for anyone with information and/or connection to Bass Family from Robeson Co., specifically Nevell Bass, born 1820 in Robeson, married Mary Bass, same county, brother Gilson Bass and sister Betsy Bass Blackmon. Nevell and Mary were on 1870 Robeson census but not on 1880 for same county. I can not locate them in North Carlolina nor any other state. Most of the Bass and Blackmon children left Robeson about 1873 and ended up in Texas. Nevell and Mary do not show up there on Tax rolls or on the 1880 Texas census. I have checked Soundex files for 1880 for all southern states but to no avail. Does anyone have any information or suggestions as to what to do next. Also, I have found no listing of either Nevell or Mary Bass in any of the Robeson county cemeteries. Do you have a Sally Grantham? On a census record i saw her as a servant living in my greatgrandparents house. Barbara green Justice Jax.,Fl.
Hi Jeanette, I have quite a few JACKSON surnames from Columbus, Dillon & Robeson Counties in North & South Carolina's. This is my husband's line, they ended up in Columbus Co.N.C., from Dillon Co. S.C. Here is one of the older ones in a grave yard in Columbus county. Mattie GRANTHAM Isaac JACKSON 04-26-1863 08-11-1894 11-05-1941 01-27-1942 Maybe this will help, I don't know. I have two Thomas JACKSON's a father and son, but neither even close enough in age to being yours. I'd check out Dillon Co., there's alot of Jackson's there and also where my husband's came from. Looking for anyone with a Jackson family connection from Robeson Co. Thomas Jackson born abt 1765. Thomas had family in Robeson in the 1790 census. One child named Cornelius was born there shortly after 1790, joined the military in Fayetteville in 1817 and paroled near Pensacola, Fl in 1822. This is about all known except Thomas married Azenith Hammond, daughter of JOhn Hammond. Have a good Hammond record but NEED to connect to the Jackson's there. Thanks Jeanette

I second the motion on the Lowery family--knowing the whole story is necessary before forming an opinion. In the words of a friend of mine who also thought the Lowerys were outlaws, "well, now that I have read the book, looks like Reuben King needed a good killing." I had given my friend a copy of 'To Die Game' by William McKee Evans. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in Robeson County. As a relative of the Lowery family, I only hope their spirit of true justice lives on in the rest of us. Mitzi Hammond Perkins
To: Robeson County Mailing List From: Johnny Johnson, Kingwood Texas Re: Location and information about the M.E. Church, Whitehouse Township My ancestor, John Wesley CLEMONS, married Christian Eleanor MILLS, in 1873, in Robeson County. The marriage was performed by a minister surnamed OLIVER, at the M.E. Church. Does anyone know of an M.E. Church in Whitehouse Township? I'd like to know if the church or a successor church still exits, if there is a cemetery, etc. The CLEMONS and MILLS families moved to Horry County, SC and Marion County, SC, in the late 1800s. Thanks, Johnny Johnson
[email protected] wrote: > ><< There are many with the spelling McEachern. >> Yes, there are both McEACHINs and McEACHERNs in Robeson. They are different families and in fact distinct surnames, and they are often confused for each other in official documents (especially annoying when it's a will or gravemarker!). I have been surveying the Robeson Co. censuses for these surnames (I'm up to 1870), and I'm becoming more adept at recognizing who is in which family. It's amusing that in one census, they'll all be spelled McEACHERN, in the next, they're all McEACHINs. If you come across one that you have trouble identifying, drop me a line & I can probably tell you who they are. I've put together a website for my McEACHINs, and I'm working on another to collect all my McEACHERN information. The descendents of John & Patrick McEachin, who arrived in Robeson sometime bet. 1765-80, are featured at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mceachin/johnpara.html . Drop me a line if you recognize anyone. Jeffre

Hi All, Sorry to bother everyone ! But I was aay from my computer for the weekend and when I went to boot it up last night for whatever reason I lost all my past mail and all my bookmarks. Dorothy, I don't have info on any Britt men except ones born in the 1800's. Sorry. Have you tried to find the Death Cert of Charles Britt? I don't know anything about the Meltons. But again you could try the Death Cert if you knew the date and place of death. The Certs are held in the county of death not where they lived. I found that out why looking for the son of one of my Britts and instead found the Death Cert of his father who is the one I really wanted. Terry, I have been trying to trace a family who lived in Lumberton, Robeson County, NC. Catherine Melton d/o Marshall C. Melton and Bertha Caulder. Catherine was born in the 1920's and married Virgil Thomas, they split up after the birth of two children. Neither of whom knew their mother very much at all. They found her as adults. Catherine remarried Charles Britt and had children by him. One brother lives in or around Columbia, S.C., one lives in Lumberton, NC, but because of them not being raised together and other things, they are not close and don't even correspond. Catherine is my husband's grandmother and if anyone has any information on her family, I would be very greatful. This probably doesn't help either, but following is a probate record of John McGill of Richmond co., NC. I know that the John Gilchrist mentioned in the document, and his daughter are both from Robeson county. 1875 December 14. Richmond County Probate Court. John McKay, Administrator of John McGill, deceased, petitions for final account and settlement to Dugald Stewart, the Hon. Judge of Probate for County of Richmond. The names and residences of the heirs and distributees of the said McGill are as follows: John Gilchrist, who resides at Laurinburg, Richmond County, N. C., Daniel McEachin and wife Mary Ann, the heirs at law of Mary Miller, Elizabeth Snipes who resides at Little Rock, South Carolina, and John McGill and Smiley McGill at Okolona, Ark. That, after diligence, he has been unable to find out the Post Office address of any of the other non-resident defendants and that all the defendants, except John Gilchrist, are non-residents and that all of said parties are interested in the administration of the estate committed to the charge of your petitioner < Wherefore, your petitioner prays that a notice may be issued to the defendants herein, and publication be made as to such as are non-residents, that an account may be had and taken as to the administration of the personal estate and also of the assets from the sale of real estate. That the account of your petitioner be passed upon and that there be a settlement of the whole estate in the hands of your petitioner. That a decree for distribution of the surplus, if any there be, be passed and that there be a settlement of the estate of the intestate and for such other further relief as the nature and circumstances of the case may require and your petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray. John McKay. Estate Recs.1772-1933 CR.082.508.37 I am interested in the relationship between the McGill family and the Gilchrists (Eliz. Gilchrist m. Nelson Snipes). Bill Snipes
Hello, Lydia Britt b 1879, Robeson Co, NC, moved to Marion Co, SC by 1880 census was back in Robeson Co in 1924 for a deed transaction and was listed as Lydia Davis, widow. I don't know who she married or anything about her life after she left SC. Her parents were William Pinkney Britt b 1822-24 and Mary "Polly" Cox. She was the last child born to this couple. "Pink" and "Polly" continued to live in Marion Co and died there. There oldest son married and had one son who was my ex-husband's father. I started doing research on the Britt line when I found out my son, who is a Jr. was named after his great grandfather William Marshall Britt, called Marshall, oldest son of Pink and Polly. I have info on all of the children but three. Joseph disappeared between the 1880 and 1900 census so I do not know if he died or left Marion Co. Temperance, called Tempy, lived in Columbus Co, during two deed transactions, one in 1905 and another in 1924 but don't if she ever married or married a Britt. Someone in the family married an Ivey somewhere near Fairmont or Fair Bluff because the oldest brother-in-law remembers Ivey Aunts coming to visit when he was small. What is the county seat of Columbus Co? Whiteville? Thanks. Terry G. Britt (female) Florence, SC
