Can anyone connect the spouses?
There are 10 Noles listed in the Benson Telephone Directory. There is a T.O Noles whom I know and his son Keith. Besides them there are eight others. T.O. was the only Noles there for many years. Where the others came from I do not know. This is Johnston County.
Lynn, I'm enjoying the Raft Sw info - all my folks are on it. I seen some list but not the ones you have. I'm connected to Tyners, Townsends, Odoms, Prevattes and on and on. Thanks again for sharing. How did you get that info? I have tried to find my grandfathers info but haven't so far.
i wonder if Martha was his wife's sister or maybe her cousin?
Isn't that always how it is? Women get all the punishment men get their hands slapped.
Looking for the relatives of WB Jones and Evans Jones who worked on the ACL line with my great-grandfather. Please contact me at your earliest convenience.
Doris, I don't know. Although I have an excellent history of him, Duncan Cornelius LOWE is one of my least filled in family members. No one seems to be related to him but me! He married Mary "Polly" SMALL on 15 June 1857 and they had 3 children of whom I am aware: Orpha, John W and my ggm, Olive Jane. Several months ago I put out a query re: her sibs and no one ever picked up on it. John W LOWE married Levina MOORE. Their issue: Dan C LOWE, who had 3 wives, Minnie PREVATTE, Olive BULLOCK and Ruth LEWIS. Edgar Thomas, who married Sallie B BAXLEY W. S., who married Mantha PREVATTE Kenneth, who married Maggie MAULDIN Maggie, who married Hartwell BULLOCK Bessie, who married Sammy DAVIS Selonia, who married Ben BAXLEY Mary, who married Charles NANCE Becky, who married Alvin PREVATTE Orpha married Rabe PREVATT. Uncle Nash provided me with an extensive history of Duncan Cornelius and his descendants in which preface he mentions a Stephen LOW, who was granted 100 acres of land near the HORNE Swamp in 1793, and in 1825, Daniel LOE deeded Stephen LOE 355 acres at School House Bridge. Unfortunately, as excellent as this history is, Nash was not able to connect our gf with any of the other LOE/LOW/LOWE's to pinpoint his antecedents. He believes, but can't prove, Duncan's father was an Ebenezer LOWE who witnessed his marriage to Mary SMALL, d/o Sherriff John M SMALL and Esther MOORE. If you would like a copy of Duncan's history, send me your snail mail address and I will send a copy to you. Perhaps you will recognize some of the other names mentioned. I will give you a part of what Nash has to say: In Bladen county, N C is found the will of Thomas LOWE that is dated Jan 14, 1779. It lists the mother and executrix of Thomas LOWE as Amey HILL, as sister-in-law and executrix, Winifred LOWE. Sons were given as Daniel and John LOWE. the witnesses were Abraham DAVIS, James MOORE and Mary MOORE. The earliest record of any LOWES (LOES) in Robeson county is a deed in the register of deeds Office which is dated 1788 when William TOLER deeded Daniel LOE 300 acres on the East side of the Old Field Swamp. ......In 1793 the state of N C granted Stephen LOW 100 acres near the Horse Swamp...... I wish I could have been of more help. Meredith My husband's grandfather, Henry Hampton McKeithen (1877-1962), was an engineer on the Atlantic Coast Line. He was born in Brunswick Co.,NC, moved to Wilmington,NC with his wife and young daughters, and then moved to Florence where he raised his family and lived out most of his retirement. His engine is now on tour in N.C. Someone sent us pictures of it recently where it was resting on a sidetrack in Salisbury,NC. Would you believe it is now painted lavender??? OK! It seems to be implied that the two events are related, but maybe not. Dec 5 1874 Sister Martha Ann MOORE reported for adultery. The case then taken up and she excluded from fellowship with this church. Bro Jos RATLY was reported for adultery. [ Do you notice he wasn't punished?] Lynn ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 08, 2000 8:36 AM Subject: Re: [NCROBESO-L] 1886 Raft Swamp Baptist Church male membership > Did you say Gossip about Joseph Ratley. Looking for folks who have or whose relatives worked on the Atlantic Coast Line railroad from 1920-1959 (when it officially stopped going to Elrod, NC).
Who was the white ruling establishment during that time? I see so many names on this list that I'm not sure who was in charge then... -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, May 20, 2000 12:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NCROBESO-L] Lowrie Gang Tom: I take offense to your comment concerning the Lowrie/Lowry Gang. Henry Berry Lowrie was my GreatUncle and his father Allen was my Greatgrandfather. Maybe you should read more concerning this matter, then you will understand why they were involved in a so called "Gang." Before I would ever make a decision on a matter, I would throughly research the whole story and then make a comment. Did you know that his father Allen Lowrie was killed by the so called "white ruling establishment" as was his brother, cousin and so many more. The establishment did more to cause this than anyone else. I DO NOT apologize for my comments as I know the whole story and I am very proud of Henry Berry Lowrie and his so called Gang. I do believe your comment should be said about the "White Ruling Establishment. Jean Concering the following comment. In the section on the Lowry gang a rather dastardly bunch from what Ive read, it mentions that ex-sheriff Reuben King was killed by the Lowrys, both John Dial and Steve Lowry were found guilty of the murder and sentenced to Hang. Five miles south of Lumberton was the town of Kingsdale, so named for the King family who ran the Southern Sawmills and Lumber co. there. The company also furnished the public blacksmithing there. This was Circa 1906. Thats about all on the Kings in the book, hope it helps Tom ______________________________
Can someone tell me which family owned a big tobacco farm in Whiteville during the 40's and 50's?

Hi Meredith, Here's a copy of one of my g-uncles WWI Draft Registration: On the Draft Registration Card it shows his name as Joseph Hook Snipes, age 40, address, 8 S. Harllee St., Florence, SC. He is medium height, medium build, brown eyes, red hair, his occupation is Yard Conductor for A.C.L (Atlantic Coast Line Railroad), and his wife is listed as Rosa Belle Snipes. For Preston Daniel Snipes I have the following note: "Most of the brothers worked for the Atlantic Coast Railroad out of Florence, SC. Joe was killed by a train. Bob worked for the Railroad and married Belle (Rosabelle) in Florence. Another uncle, Clyde Lemuel Snipes "Clyde worked as a train man for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad until his health failed as a result of war service in France." (He served in WWI). If you can supply any additional information about this family I would appreciate it.
