Hi, Could someone in Robeson County, NC do a look-up for me of the death certificate of Lonnie King (1890-1931) who died in March 1931 in Saint Paul's. He was married to Mary Margaret Chappell (1896-1977) who re-married after his death. She and Lonnie had one daughter. What information would the death certificate give--place of burial, cause of death, names of parents? Would he have been buried with others of the King or Chappell families? I know so very little about this branch of my family and would so appreciate any help. If I can find out where he is buried, I would love to visit the grave this summer. (I now live in Cincinnati, Ohio.) Thanks. Sharlotte Neely Donnelly [email protected] http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly
I am looking for any information about Fred Thomas, born in Lumberton, NC, (Robeson County) anywhere from 1879-1885. He married Claire S. and had at least two daughters: Ann Elizabeth (born about 1905) and Helen L. Fred died before July 1923. His widow and daughters were living in Raleigh in 1923. Fred is buried in Lumberton. Thanks, Gayle Weiss

Seeking information on the Rev. Alexander McMillan. He was a Church of Scotland minister who immigrated to North Carolina in 1765. I understand, from another source, that he was married to Cristia Hamilton and they had the following children: Alexander, John, Margaret, Nancy, Mary and Sara. When was Rev. Alexander McMillan born and when and where did he die? I would also appreciate birth years for the children. I am especially interested in his daughter Mary McMillan. Did this Mary McMillan marry Duncan McCallum in Cumberland or Robeson Co., NC? Thanks for any help offered. Several individuals have asked me to post source and cost information to this list on a booklet entitled "Roots in Robeson" by Mrs. Katie K. Snyder. I now have this info and will be happy to provide it if contacted privately. I have not seen this publication but understand that it relates to the McNeill, McMillan, McCallum and McKay families of Robeson Co., NC with an emphasis on the McNeill family. Thanks, Peggy. I have already queried the ggrandchildren & gggrandchildren left. No grandchildren alive. Thank you anyway for your reply. It does seem hopeless at the present time. Blessings, Laura
Peggy, Is there any way I can find out which cemetery JOHN P. HERNDON b.ca1820 is buried in since he was not buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Pauls, NC along with some of the HERNDON FAMILY, namely: his son & his wife and their children & grandchildren. I would appreciate your advice on this. Thanks & Blessings, Laura Herndon
Laura, Death certificates (beginning 1913) tell where the deceased is buried, of course that will not help with John P. maybe some of the grandchildren. Good Luck. peggy [email protected] wrote: > Peggy, > Is there any way I can find out which cemetery JOHN P. The cemetery beside Buies Pond has only one grave marker now. Duncan is in the one near Rennert PDT [email protected] wrote: > located beside Buies Pond in Philadelphus Community on HWY 72
Tony, The cemetery known as McAlpins Grove or McNair is located near Rennert. There are two Duncans buried there- the one from Scotland with his wife Catherine McCallum- they came in 1786. This inscription is on a very tall stone tower. Hope this helps. This is in Vol 1 of my books. Peggy [email protected] wrote: > Does anyone know the location of a McAlpin Cemetery in Robeson County. For the benefit of those of you who may have Alford roots, there is a web site you can visit. They are very generous with their research and will help you find your Alford ancestor if you have one. This group is led by someone named Gil Alford;, and he always treats everyone like a long lost friend. Anyway, one of the reasons I am posting this is because there is going to be a big Alford annual meeting this Oct. in Augusta , GA, and the next year it will be held in North Carolina For more information : <http://www.alford.com/alford/aafa/homepage.html> The registration and information about the meeting in Augusta , GA in October is mentioned on the web site, but I thought it is going to be great to have the next one in N. C. and I certainly hope it will be in Robeson Co.,NC, so it will be close enough for all of the descendants in Marion and Marlboro to get there. Harllee's books are full of Alford families, so there should be a lot of descendants. Joanne H.
John and Penny Purcell are listed in the 1850 Robeson County, NC census as paupers. John is age 73 which means he was born c 1777 and Penny is age 70 which means she was born c 1780. Both John and Penny Purcell list their place of birth as North Carolina. Who were the parents of John Purcell and what was Penny Purcell's maiden name? I believe that John Purcell was born in Cumberland County, NC. I theorize that this John Purcell (c 1777-after 1850) was a son of Neill Purcell, Sr. (before 1745 after 1810). Neill Purcell's father was named John Purcell, Sr. (c 1720-before 1785). In addition to Neill, John Purcell, Sr. had the following children: John (c 1750-c 1810); Malcolm (c 1748-c 1776, married Beatrice Torrey); Daniel (c 1755-c 1817, married Marion Munn) and Mary (c 1740-?, married Alexander "Sawney" Graham). John Purcell and his family came to Cumberland County, North Carolina, probably from the Kintyre peninsula area of Scotland, in about 1770. I am interested in any and all information on these Purcell families in Robeson or Cumberland County, NC. Other families connected with the Purcells included: Munn, Malloy, Gilchrist, Torrey, Graham, McPhail, McPhaul and McSwain to name a few. Thanks for any help offered. Tony I found the cemetery in volume 1 of Vanishing Ancestors by Peggy Townsend. Page # 65, Cemetery # 58. It lists Duncan McNair . Sept 20, 1800 d. Sept 21, 1831 Aged 31 yrs 1 day. The cemetery is located just northeast of Rennert. It is on the left side of the road just before and intersection. Sorry, but I cannot read any road names on my map. For sure, one of the locals on this list will send in the correct address. It appears there are four graves; Duncan, his wife Elizabeth, Christian Campbell and _________Henry (wooden marker). Does anyone know the location of a McAlpin Cemetery in Robeson County. I have heard it was in Rennert and also Philadelphus. I am looking for the grave of Duncan McNair. Thanks Tony Wages
Peggy, I am not sure which part of the Hollywood Cemetary my "kin" are in. I know there are Brigman, Pittman, Bryant, West, and Prevatt(e) family members probably buried there. These are direct line names. Maybe some aunts and uncles by marriage there. I have, of course, been to my parents and grandparents graves, and continue to go ofter. Each time I am there I search a new row. Any assistance would be appreciated. Do you have any information on Mary Davis who lived in Bladen County in the late 1800's and early 1900's. She raised Robert Melvin Sessoms and they were members (Mother said) of Hickory Grove Church. Robert went on to become a Baptist Minister. The Mary Davis was Robert's grandmother, and would be my GGG-Grandmother. You mentioned that you are sending two pages from that church and I am just searching for any lead. Thanks again, Lois
Joanne hope this will tie to your Samuel. (letter cont'd) The first child Samuel born 1643 in census, was never mentioned again in any of the 3 books. My guess would be that he was the first to come south and they lost him. And I would also guess he was in the Spartanbury Co, SC area as we do have a Samuel in Spartanbury, SC who was a land surveyor as early as 1755. He made many deeds as required by law at that itme. He made them for $25,00 as long as he did not have to go over 25 miles from home. Andrew Jackson, Sr father of Pres. Andrew Jackson brought 6 or 8 other Jackson families with him when he came to the Waxhaw area. I am still studying this and I can not prove it is right bit I hope to sometime this year. Sincerely, PF Jackson Pearl had Jackson family who came on down to Coffee Co, Al. I sure hope this helps someone. Jeanette
To all that answered my request on help with a family for my Thomas Jackson a big THANK YOU!!! I have other Jackson information that I have collected in my several years of working with my Jackson. I will share one at a time of what I have. The first will be a rather long letter that a gentleman sent to another researcher and was shared with me long before computer days. I will list this and then if more of this line is needed will look in my BOX of notes and give the rest. Don"t know how to condense this so might have to make two listings. REMEMBER THIS IS NOT MY RESEARCH SO I DO NOT HAVE DOCUMENTATION. The sender and receiver are now deceased so I have no other contact for this information. (as written) Dear Pearl, Let me explain the location of where Edward Jackson 1755-1845 was born, in 1755 Old Craven Dist was a large section of land around Chesterfield Co, SC (now) but then it was part of Va. There was no NC or SC then they made a line and it was called "The Carlines", then they civided it into NC and SC, the Jakcson lived on the line at that time and even President Andrew Jackson did not know in which state he was born as there was only a wagon road as a dividing line and this was in dispute until 1767 they ran a line and the Cheraw Dist took part of Anson, NC and several counties around and Cheraw City was cut off into Chesterfield Co, SC. All this above is very confusing unless you know how the old maps looked which I have the old one of NC. There were only 3 Jackson's there. I also have some old land deeds and the 3 Jackson's in that area was John Jackson who had a large family and one of his son's was Edward but he was not born in 1755. He had a brother Stephen Jackson who also had a large family but he did not have an Edward. The 3rd borther was Benjamin Jackson and he married Amy Paul, the widow of Abraham Paul, and they raised a large family and one of his son's was Edward Jackson born 1755-1845 in Walker co, Ga. His parents were James Jackson born in Queen Co, NY in 1670 and Rebecca Hallett born 1675. Rebecca was the daughter of Wm Hallett of Halletts Cove Astoria Long Island and they had 20 children Parents for James Jackson who married Rebecca were John Jackson born 1647 census and died 1725. He married Elizabeth Seaman, born 1647 census Queen Co, NY. John Jackson's parents were the imigrates who first came to America, they are Robert Jackson, born in census 1620 in England and died in Queens Co, NY in 1684, married Agenes Washburne, born 1624 in England and died 1682 in Queen Co, NY, married in 1640. They had 4 known children. Robert Jackson's parents were Richard Jackson and Isabel Maltby Jackson of England. Now this is a combination of 3 books and one of these books is written by a host of relatives who got together and wrote all they knew. Now I know a lot of it is right because the other 2 books agrees with this. Will continue rest of letter on page 2 ----- Jeanette
