Saundra and Pat, In your research have you come across any really early HICKS/HIX families? Mine lived just inside Chatham near present day Pleasant Grove Chr. Church, but ca 1840, I think it was, my Larkin was enumerated in Randolph Co. Think Joseph HICKS would be who I am looking for. Thanks, Jocelyn Barrett -----Original Message----- From: Pat Perkins [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, September 05, 2003 7:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NCR'ndol] Re: John W Poe Sandra I believe that Ambrose was related to Elizabeth Rains father Anthony. I will go over my Rains notes and see what I have there .I don't believe he was in his immediate family .I believe that they lived near each other in south east Randolph Co.where John w Poe also is found John W Poe also spent some time up near Liberty , as that area was on the 1820 tax list the John W Poe district .It seems like the more I study his line the more I find that these families didn't just live near each other , they married into surrounding families and migrated together , many from Va to the Carolinas on one deed that I found in Essex co. Va. for The Nicholson family, in 1752 there were 7 of the 9 family names involved either as sellers ,or witnesses , that are later found near the Randolph Co line just in Chatham Co , or just in Randolph Co. in 1800 .Many of those names when investigated, show relationships to each other ,either through marriage or as neighbors .I am convinced that one can almost trace their own families by researching the names of those that are found near them ,on deeds ,and estate sales ,and census .Chances are that if one finds their ancestor, on one of these documents ,that their families are near by . I will look and see what I can find for you . in my files . I have run across Hicks in Plymouth colony and would not be surprised if this line had gone down to Pa. or NJ and then into Chatham Co. The Doanes of there did that and way back one of them married samuel Hicks son of Robert. The Doane were Quakers and a line tied to them was in pasquotank or Perquimans Co. early and were Quakers. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jocelyn Barrett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 05, 2003 10:37 AM Subject: RE: [NCR'ndol] Re: John W Poe > Saundra and Pat, > In your research have you come across any really early HICKS/HIX > families? I have some Quaker Doans lived so of Siler City in Chatham Co .A Hannah Doane (sometimes spelled Doone or Doan ) married a Jerimiah Poe I have more on her of course I believe that Jerimiah was a brother to John W Poe .I am alone in this belief I believe as Jerimiahs family refuse to look fo r Jerimiahs father in NC not sure why they know Hannah came from there , I believe that Jerimiah and John W Poe were the sons of William Poe and Susannah ??? I have a lot of circumstantial evidence mostly because ages are correct .The Doans lived near Susannah Poe who is found a widow on the 1800 census for Chatham co .John W Poe named one of his sons Jerimiah , both John W Poe and Jerimiah Poe named oldest daughters Susannah . both eventually migrated to Indiana . children living in Susannahs home correspond with both Jerimiah an d John W Poe . It is a lot of circumstantial evidence to ignore Patricia Caviness Perkins ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Lamb <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 05, 2003 7:44 PM Subject: Re: [NCR'ndol] Re: John W Poe > I have run across Hicks in Plymouth colony and would not be surprised if > this line had gone down to Pa. or NJ and then into Chatham Co.
