I have been aware of the mystery of how James Pugh (of Thomas) could have been hanged at Hillsborough in 1776 by Tryon's militia yet was named executor of his father's will in 1794. My own inquiries have produced no answers. I was born in Randolph County;a descendant of Thomas Pugh,Jr. So my interest in this question continues.
