    1. Re: [NCRand] GARNERs of Randolph County NC
    2. Hi, Tim. In my files, I have a Brazilla Gardner who was born 23 May 1778 and died 1 September 1829 in Guilford County, NC. This name is shown in various spellings, including Barzillai. September 5, 1829, issue of Greensborough Patriot: "Deaths: In this county, on Wednesday last, Mr. Brazilla Gardner, and old and respectable citizen; and formerly a representative in the Legislature." He had two daughters: Delphina Eliza Gardner, born 3 February 1811. Delphina married George C. Mendenhall, who was very involved with the establishment of Guilford College. I seem to remember that his portrait hangs in the college library. George's father, another George, married Judith Gardner (I don't know her relationship to Brazilla). Oriana "Flora" Marzillia Gardner, born 8 June 1814. She married a man surnamed Nixon. I don't know of a direct connection between the Wall family and this Gardner family. Perhaps the child was named after someone they admired - something the Benbow family and other Quaker families did a lot, apparently. Katherine Dick Benbow
