Brenda, What I have seen from members of those families I am searching from Montgomery and Randolph Counties in NC had a lot to do with the Civil War,and economic conditions in the south at the time. I have people who went to the Plainfield/Indianapolis, IN area, some stayed while others made a trip or two back to NC. I remember reading about the "Hoosiers" a bit ago and the story was of a huge group of people from out of Winston-Salem( Forsyth County) who gathered a lot of the local people from NC and traveled to IN as a group. If you can check with Forsyth County Library in Winston-Salem,NC you might find more information,or check search engines for "Hoosiers." I'm sure the libraries in IN will have information about that.
