I have my gg-gfath. James Madison Cranford listed as being dead in July 1862 from records filed in both Randolph and Montgomery Counties. In Oct. 1862 estate records were filed and Marmaduke Williams, father of Laura Ann Williams Cranford helped settle the estate. I also have Laura Ann living with her son Joel Griffin Cranford in 1880 in Randolph County, nothing after that. I don't know where or when she died, or is buried. I don't know where James Madison Cranford is buried, or where he died. Really don't know exactly when he died. I always thought James Madison Cranford was killed in the war but have not found "anything" showing that he was in the military. He had three brothers who were all in the Confederate Army. The Cranford family was from the Lovejoy area of Montgomery County,NC. If anyone has any information in reference to this mystery I would be most thankful. Richard C. Richard, Do you know where his wife was buried? It would be one place to start looking. Naturally I thought of CW records and I did find one J. M. Cranford who was inducted in Rockingham Co. who died of wounds but he did not die until 1863.
