I am also interested in this family. Laughlin (or someone in his family) is high on my list as the possible parent of John Campbell (b. 1775) of Stokes, Randolph and Surry Counties. John Campbell was probably born to a young neighbor of Laughlin's, Mary Hamilton, but the identity of John's father remains a mystery. Laughlin and his sons were close associates of Mary Hamilton's father, Ninian Hamilton, at around the time John Campbell was born, but I have not been able, as yet, to find any documentary evidence, such as bastardy bonds, wills, etc. Thanks!
