There was a Fletcher Hopkins that visited us (when I was 10) he came to Kingsport with my grandfather Dr. B. P. Ford (from Newport) Fletch was visiting my grandfather from up north. I met Fletch Hopkins and I remember that my grandfather said he was his cousin and that he was an atheist. My grandfather's mother was Harriett Hopkins of Randolph Co.,NC. which is near where my grandfather was raised . Near Gatlinburg, TN. (a place they call Grassy Fork) which is about 10 miles up a mountain from Hartford, TN. There is a write-up on my grandfather in the Newport, TN library (Stokley Memorial ) and they will fax a copy to you. He was recently named "Citizen of the Century " in Newport Plain Talk newpaper. He has been dead for approximately 25 years. He lived to be 96 years of age. Back to Flectcher Hopkins....My mother is still living and is 83 yrs old. I will ask her more about Fletcher Hopkins.
