    1. Re: GARNERs of Randolph County NC
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: WALL WALLS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kUB.2ACE/2021.1.4.1 Message Board Post: Thanks. I think since Wiley WALL and Jereter were both in Randolph County NC from childhood times with the exception of being in Guilford County, NC during the 1840 census, they were probably back in Randolph County NC when Brazilla was born. Brazilla is shown as age 5 in 1850. His descendants did not change the spelling of his middle name, so perhaps GARNER represents a kind of time capsule from the days when James Garner lived. I will check the 1830 and 1840 censuses to see where in relation to the WALL/WALLS residence that your James Garner lived. My Wiley WALL, his son Josiah, and Josiah's son William Wall from the mid 1840's to the 1880's, lived in the area of New Salem, which is now part of Randleman and just south of Level Cross. I have GARDNERs in my ancestry from Nantucket and I recall that there was a Barzillai GARDNER in the area, but I was never convinced that this was the source of the GARNER name in Brazilla's name. My family called him "Uncle B.G." and my dad had heard of him although never had met him since B.G. died too early for him to meet my dad. Wiley WALL inherited 125 acres from his father Samuel WALL when Samuel died in 1823. Jesse WALL got the rest of the land next to Wiley's, also about 125 acres. This land was on Deep River, I believe. I have never been able to figure out exactly where it was, but thought from the William WALL land described in the 1883 and 1888 deeds of sa! le that this land was just south of Deep River next to where old Greensboro Road crossed over Deep River. Where was James Garner in relation to this area of Randolph County? Thanks, Tim
