The location of his land is not mentioned in his estate papers: All James' children and many grandchildren are listed in a document from Randolph County P's and Q's Nov 1845, wherein James' property was to be divided between his heirs as he left no will. His name is spelled GARDNER. Here are the names: 1.JOHN Gardner who lives in the State of Alabama; 2.ELIZABETH who married Mr. Craven who is dead; 3.POLLY the wife of James Scotten; 4.JAMES who died many years ago in his father's lifetime leaving the following children: Barnabas D. Gardner who lives in some of the western states; Hannah the wife of John Whittle who lives -----,Elizabeth the wife of Andrew Craven who lives ----; 5.NANCY who married Enoch Latham both of who died in her father's lifetime, leaving the following children: Elizabeth (married to James Gatlin in TN),Gemima wife of Wm. Williamson, Lewis Latham who lives in the west, Huldah Latham who lives in the west; Dolphin, Enoch, and Nancy who live in the west. 6.WYATT 7.SUSANNA who married Samuel Moffitt and died in her father's lifetime leaving the following children: Ruth (wife of Stephen Moffitt) Silas L Moffitt, Elizabeth Moffitt, Rebecca (wife of Abel Cox) Elkin L Moffitt, and Peggy Moffitt (under age 21). 8.DOLPHIN 9.REBECCA who married William Brady 10.LEWIS who lives in Alabama. All the above were named in James' estate papers to share in his estate, of which Alfred Brower was the administrator.
