I descend from the English Garners who came from VA to NC. The Randolph Co branch (mine) changed the spelling of their name to GarDner; the Moore County branch kept the original spelling. My 4xgreat grandfather James Garner shows the GARDNER spelling in his estate papers of 1843. None of these Garner families are related to the Nantucket Gardners. I believe Barzillai may be of the Nantucket family.
