I noticed that her brother Johnston Latham had a daughter Margaret. Margaret E J Latham married John D Garner (Gardner), born abt 1778, and he was a son of James Garner "Jr" and Elizabeth Needham. (Brother of Nancy Garner who married Enoch Latham.) James Garner "Jr" was a son of James Garner Sr and Elizabeth Freeman, of VA.

I hope one day to find the parent's of my James Lewis Latham. Some how he was related to the Garner's, because of his son named Alfred Garner Latham! Can you go back farther on James Garner, who married Margaret Elizabeth Jane Latham? Maybe one of his brother's was connect'ed some way to the Latham's. The Nancy Latham who married William Garner Jr., who was her parent's? I have a feeling that may have a descendant to Cornelius Latham. I really appreciate all your help, just wish I could help you more on these line's!

He was born probably September of 1845, but this could have been 1844 if the census taker in 1850 recorded his age accurately as of the 1st of June 1850. All censuses after 1850 are inconsistent with regards to his age so it is possible that he really did not know how old he was. What we know is that only one of his brothers, Josiah WALL, survived the Civil War years, and possibly another brother, Robert, died of typhus in the war. One sister, Edeth, possibly named for Edeth (LAMB) CHAMNESS who was the wife of William CHAMNESS, who was listed on an August 1833 list of debts along with Wiley WALL in Randolph County, NC, is unaccounted for after 1860. I'm sure there are more clues I have missed to GARNER.

They had a son William Jr who married Nancy Latham. This family lived in Bibb Co AL. William Jr and Nancy's youngest daughter Celie married Isaac Madison Latham (son of Enoch Latham and Jane Hicks). However, to add to the confusion, I have JOHN LATHAM, son of Cornelius the elder, with a daughter Susannah (1785) who married a William Garner. Susannah and William stayed in NC, and this William Garner, as far as I know, was from a totally different Garner family of German ancestry. Not related to the Garner/Gardners at all!! William Garner and Susannah Latham had a daughter Lucretia (1810) who married a James Latham. They too stayed in Randolph Co NC.

Several of them named daughter's Martha, but no Margaret? Do you know of William Garner who married a Miss. Latham, and settled in Bibb Co., Alabama abt. 1820/1830? They went to Bibb Co AL and had several children. I am told that Margaret E J divorced John in 1834, claiming that he was a drinker and had no property. She was born abt 1777 in Randolph Co NC and was still living in 1850. John, by the way, used the "GarDner" spelling. It appears that John's daddy started the new spelling, and those who stayed in Randolph NC kept it. The ones in Moore Co NC kept GARNER. The ones who left NC used either spelling they liked. No wonder they are so hard to find.... Do you know Margaret E J Latham's parents?

Nancy's daddy James is my 4xgreat grandfather; her sister Rebecca is my 3x great grandmother. Another researcher found a paper in a "miscellaneous file" at the Randolph Co NC library which names Elizabeth Needham as the mother of Nancy and her siblings. Elizabeth is highly likely to be a daughter of Bayley Needham. It is believed that Nancy, at the age of 18, became involved with Jeremiah Williams, also 18. There is a bastardy bond taken out by Nancy in 1800, and Nancy's brothers James and John were bondsmen. However, Jeremiah died before any possible marriage took place, and the child Lydia was adopted by Jeremiah's parents (Benjamin and Hannah Williams). I have James Lewis Latham in my tree as a son of Enoch and Nancy, although I know he is NOT. I just don't know where he belongs!

Anthony married Margaret Shamburger, and died in either Wilcox or Clarke Co., Alabama! They had a son named Anthony who lived in Pickens Co., Alabama, near Carrollton. Enoch married Nancy Garner, and came to Carroll Co., Miss. abt. 1830, he died in Marthaville, Louisana, while visiting some family. Lewis Latham is the only one that I;m not sure about, he could have been Emanuel father also. I'm almost sure they are close related to my James Lewis Latham who was born Oct. 10, 1805 in North Carolina, and died sometime after 1870 in Choctaw Co., Miss.
