Noah fought as a Confederate until he was captured and held prisoner at Pt. Lookout. Many, many men died at that prison camp, so it is no wonder he chose to be freed by joining the Union foces and fighting in the New West (SD, etc.). Many Luthers and Vancannons are buried in Iowa.

    3. On the 1815 tax list for Randolph Co I show several Moffitts it shows a Robert Moffitt adjacent to Charles Wilkenson then further down the list it shows Charles Wilkinson adjacent to John Lambert . these people lived near the Chatham Co line and a John Wilkerson is just across the line in Chatham Co in 1800 he is two doors down from Susannah Poe one I am researching she is the widow of William Poe he died just prior to 1800 Susannah and John Wilkerson are just seperated by on e name , I wonder if they are connected they are found on the Census for Chatham Co. it was also a Wilkerson who signed as a witness for sale of land from Susannah and husband William about 1779 to Henry Bray . ( I have to look harder to find that exact date ). These families lived so close to the county line that records are found in both counties . Patricia Caviness Perkins

    1. Re: NCRANDOL-D Digest V06 #52
    2. Thank you, Patricia, I note your three different spellings for Wilkerson which is part of the research problem. It also sounds like I should look into Chatham Co. as well as Randolph. Charles first son was a John, b. abt. 1797. Perhaps named after his father or brother. Other sons were William, Charles, Aaron & Henry. The Aaron suggests that Elizabeth Moffitt was indeed his wife as that was her brother's name too. Their two daughters were Margaret and Elizabeth Nancy. I would like to find some record of Charles and Elizabeth's marriage; the exact birth dates for their children b. between 1797 and 1812-15 and possibly a death date for Elizabeth Moffitt Wilkerson. Charles moved to MO by 1820 and remarried in 1828. This also agrees with the finding that Elizabeth Moffitt Wilkerson died sometime after 1817. I have made a copy of your posting for future reference & appreciate your time in looking up these details and replying. Jo

    1. Re: Wilkerson/ Wilkinson-Moffitt Attn.: Patricia Caviness Perkins
    2. Hi Patricia, Just wanted to inquire if you ran into any Wilkerson/Wilkinsons in your research. We have reason to believe that our Charles Wilkerson, (b. 1770 IRL in Randolph Co. by 1800), may have been the husband of Elizabeth Moffitt daughter of Robert M. Moffitt. Thanks, Jo Banks
