    3. I have finally started putting new material online. At the moment it is still being indexed but the search engine should be done by early a.m. at the latest. I have linked the surnames from the 1850 Cenus to the images which are now online. I ordered the 1850 Census images some time ago and they have just arrived. I have also started abstracting some birth and marriage records as well as listing CV volunteers from Randolph Co. Hope everyone can find something useful I have been trying to contact the author of the Craven book with the thought that if it is sold out, I might ask for permission to post part of it. If anyone knows how I might reach her or a family member, please let me know. Nola

    3. Thanks for the note, Pat. I know that a number of Hoovers and others headed to OH and later to IN. I suspect Vestals may have also. But the David Hoover m [I think] Amy Vestal, may have be the dad. I hope. Their son Jesse, if he was their son, was the one who went later to MO with the Gosses, his in-laws. I appreciate the tip, though. Linda On Tue, 3 Oct 2006 07:06:53 -0400, you wrote: >Many of the Vestals migrated to Indiana some to Texas . Very very much appreciated. I have been reviewing this family recently, and I think that I may have given up on the connection between my Jesse b cir 1830 and this particular David Hoover, wife Amy [reputed to be Amy Vestal, but I have not proofed this], and their son Jesse of the same age. Thanks, Gary. It sounds like I may have been tracking that same 'other' Jesse, and may have given up too quickly. It all sounds very familiar. I don't want to push the patience of the Randolph Co board with my Davidson Co people, but so many Hoover researchers listen in here.... I will be very brief and basic. It is possible that people who know the lines of Jonas and Jacob Hoover of Randolph, or who know of extraneous sibs and cousins of other Randolph Co Hoover lines may have a clue for me. On the other hand, this may be a different line of Hoovers.... Your patience is appreciated. Here, I am only laying out a very brief skeleton of census data., hoping that names and times might click. All of these were 'Rowan Co' until the 1830 census, but from tracking the people and neighbor clusters and land issues, they seem to have been roughly in either the northern or southern division of Davidson Co, and pretty much stayed put. Boundaries changed, but the rough geography did not. 1790 No Hoovers by any spelling I could find 1800 George and Peter.... Unfortunately an alphabetized census. Both names follow along in the northern division families, but may not mean much. ****1810 Jacob and Phillip Hoover; These two continue very near each other in the southern division of Davidson over decades. Ages too close to be father/son. Must be brothers/cousins. I strongly suspect that David m Amy was from one of them, and possibly all other southern division Hoovers. Who were they?? 1820 Jacob and Phillip still next door, southern division, Henry a few farms along in one direction, of an age to be a brother/cousin. Michael a few farms along in the other direction, of an age to be a son of one of them. 1830 Jacob and Phillip southern division. Phelix and Charles northern division. 1840 Peter and Valentine, northern div. David southern 1850 Peter, Valentine, Charles northern division; David, Andrew, Henry southern. I may be dealing with a Hoover line that had absolutely nothing to do with the Randolph Hoovers, at least back to the shore or well beyond the shore. But if anything makes sense here for Randolph Co Hoover hunters, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks for the patience of the Randolph list. I'll try to take this to a Hoover list. I hope that the other Hoover researchers will still be listening.......... Linda

The David I was thinking about was married to Polly, ( no last name ). It could be that David who married Amy who had a son Jesse, that Jesse might have migrated with his wifes family. Does anyone know where their son Jesse b abt 1830 went? If Jesse moved to IN with the other Hoovers and stayed there, then he is not my Jesse. After Peter died, Susanna never remarried but had several more children.

Some of the families with whom they intermarried were Latham, Crisco, Cagle, and others. These Garners produced Peter Garner, the infamous "bounty hunter" who tracked down awol Confederate soldiers and also Quaker boys who would not participate in the war. He was not a good guy. Then there were the GarDners of Guilford Co. NC, not related to either of the Randolph Garner families. They were from New England.

Webster was a daughter of Edward Webster and Susan Saltenstall. Edward Webster's parents were Stephen Webster and Prudence Butler. Prudence Butler Webster was born around 1770 in Middletown, CT and died Oct. 20, 1823. I am trying to find out who Prudence Butler Webster's parents were, and I am hoping James Butler can lead me there. There is a good possibility that James and Sarah Webster Butler were cousins.
