Looked at the estate again and noticed it referred to Madison Cranford, not James Madison, or James M. Cranford. Maybe not that it matters but it listed Laura A. Cranford, widow of Madison Cranford, and estate settled by her father, Marmaduke Williams of Randolph County,NC. Richard ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Nola, Thanks for your interest. No, I don't know where Laura Ann is buried, or when she died. Tht J.M. Cranford most likely is James Milton who was killed in 1863. That one threw me also. Thanks again, Richard ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.

I have my gg-gfath. James Madison Cranford listed as being dead in July 1862 from records filed in both Randolph and Montgomery Counties. In Oct. 1862 estate records were filed and Marmaduke Williams, father of Laura Ann Williams Cranford helped settle the estate. I also have Laura Ann living with her son Joel Griffin Cranford in 1880 in Randolph County, nothing after that. I don't know where or when she died, or is buried. I don't know where James Madison Cranford is buried, or where he died. Really don't know exactly when he died. I always thought James Madison Cranford was killed in the war but have not found "anything" showing that he was in the military. He had three brothers who were all in the Confederate Army. The Cranford family was from the Lovejoy area of Montgomery County,NC. If anyone has any information in reference to this mystery I would be most thankful. Richard C. There is a new site dedicated to all military service men from North Carolina in any war. They have just started a great new page for the Civil War at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncmil/chancmay1863.htm I also host the Granville Co. page and a researcher found a rare little book in South Carolina that he was kind enough to share. He sent me the book which I am scanning to put online. The book had no interest for him but he was thoughtful enough to know that someone else might benefit and sent it to me. It will be donated to the library once I have it scanned. If you happen to have anyone who served during WWI from the Granville area, his photo may be in the book. I have just started scanning it to get it online but it can be found at : http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgranvi/wwi-colors/wtc-tp.htm Just a reminder, if anyone has Randolph Co. material, please consider sharing it. You never know when you might have the very tidbit that will help someone else. Nola

I have been researching this Faust line from South Carolina for about 12 years and I have never heard of a son John born in 1800, particularly in NC. The Christian Faust who married Eunice Abstance in 1795 was born in South Carolina (Orangeburgh District) in about 1743. He was baptized on 19 Jun/Jul 1743 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Orangeburgh. He was the youngest son of Henry Faust who had arrived in America on 13 Jul 1735 on the ship Samuel. I do not discount the possibility of a son John born in 1800 since that is the time that Christian's children were being born--just not in Randolph County, NC. Christian died on 10 May 1816 in Barnwell District, SC. I would love to exchange information with you on this family and line if you are interested. I have found that some of Dr. Faust's information in his book was incorrect, particularly about th! e SC branch of the family. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
