    1. [NCRANDOL] George, Samuel, and Thomas Alexander about 1780-1800
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: crashq Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.randolph/3537/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for information about the Alexander Family in Randolph County. I have George and his son Samuel signing a petition in Randolph County in 1788. By 1790 George is not listed on the Census and may be deceased. According to various online family trees George was rumored to be born in Ulster, Ireland around 1715, Samuel was rumored to be born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania around 1756, and married a Sarah Dennis from Center, Guilford, North Carolina where her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth lived. Thomas was born in Randolph, NC around 1795. There were other Alexanders listed in Randolph county (James, Stephen, William Sr, William jr) on the 1790 Census. Are these LAexanders related? The family (Samuel, Sarah, and Thomas) eventually moved to Owen County, Indiana possibly through Kentucky. By 1818/1820, they appeared on the Owen County tax rolls and census pages. Sarah died in about 1830 and Samuel died in about 1832; both in Gosport, Owen Co. Thomas married Mary Ann Morris From there, Thomas migrated with his in-laws Richard and Catherine Morris to Coles, Illinois. Specifically I am looking for verified information about them in NC or earlier and for information about how they got from NC to IN. 3. This following is from my unpublished Moody family history: Frances "Fanny" Moody was born between about 1784 and 1788 (1784 calculated from 1810 Census of Randolph County, North Carolina. From the 1850 census of the same county, her birth year would be 1788) in North Carolina. She married Thomas Elliott. They are enumerated on the 1800 census in Randolph County with one male and one female under 10 years of age and one male and one female 26-45 years old. The Elliotts are not enumerated on the 1810 census on Randolph or Chatham counties, but it is possible that by that time Frances was at the William Moody plantation to take care of her mother and father. After his death, she took possession of the plantation claiming it repaid her taking care of her father and mother. (Estate Papers of William Moody, Randolph Co., NC. Document #1637) William's grandson Emsley Myrick rented the plantation from Frances about a year after William's death. Document # 1637) Eventually Frances and brother William Jr. were given a joint grant of part of the land on Polecat Creek including the mill. (document # get it) During the court proceedings Henry Bray stated that Frances Elliott "until lately was a married woman whose husband abandoned her." (Document #1693) Frances continued to live in Randolph County until her death sometime after 1850.
