Hi Nola: Thanks for understanding. I have so much trouble - as I'm sure a lot of genealogists do - with info being posted on the internet that is not true. I just want to head off any future problems by making sure this is documented before anything is posted. That way I won't have folks contacting me insisting it must be true because it is on the internet - and you know ONLY true stuff gets posted just like ONLY true stuff gets published in books. No one ever writes a book with mistakes in it. Never happened - never will. The Allred Family Organization is still getting queries about a research report published in a book back in the 1960's - and now copied and posted all over the internet - that claimed the Allreds of Randolph County descend from the Aldridge family of Northumberland County, VA. This was proven false several years ago - but people will argue with us insisting it is correct because it was in a book or they saw it on the internet. It gets tiring sometimes. The info posted on Senator Obama with reference to the Allred family looks correct at first glance, but I will feel better after documenting it before publishing anything. I appreciate your help with this. And you certainly are not stepping on any toes!!!!! Please don't ever think that. I'm just paranoid about putting something "out there" before documenting it. It is just fussy ole me. Hi Nola, Tim & Fay: An article would be very interesting. However, please do not include any mention of the possible Allred descendancy until that genealogy has been documented. To my knowledge, this has not been properly documented - although it looks good on paper at first glance. Linda, If you are going to do something, I would certainly not want to do anything that might be in conflict with what you are doing. Why not just wait and then perhaps we can simply add some small short thing on the Randolph Co. page. I thought it would be interesting for the researchers to see but I know you are the Allred authority. If Tim does want to do a short piece, why not just pass it by you first to make certain that the 2 of you agree. Obviously this is not a matter that I have any knowledge about. Thanks again to both of you. John Allred and wife, Ellen Pemberton Allred, possible progenitors of the American Allreds, attended Quaker meetings in Lancashire, England during the mid and late 1600's. Both were arrested and jailed for this. To my knowledge, none of the family living in the 18th century were found in any known religion's records. They may have attended church - probably did - but there is no record of it - at least to my knowledge. If someone has documentation proving otherwise, I would love to swap info with you. Hello Charles! It's been a long time since I've seen you in my mailbox!! As you know, I'm also a descendant of Thomas Pugh. In my search, I found that there is a Pugh family living in Chatham County, NC, very near the Randolph County border. It appears there is a James Pugh in this family also. The age would have been perfect for him to be the James that was hanged at Hillsborough. I will have to dig out my notes to give all the names I found in this family. If my memory serves me correctly, I think the father was Enoch Pugh with sons James and Thomas. Also possibly another son, Jacob. But I have long since felt that this is the James that was hanged. Shortly after the time James was hanged, the father turned his land over to his sons in Chatham Co. I've got copies of the deeds where he did this. In any case, the timing fits and it would explain how our James lived many years after the hanging. Author: tbarrett3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.randolph/1707.495.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I helped read cemeteries in Randolph County and about a year ago I heard of this cemetery. It is my understanding that when By-Pass 220 was built it may have gone over part of the old cemetery. Mr. Joe Voncannon who md. a Lewallen said he wasn't sure if there ever were any headstones other than rocks out there. I have another contact to call later on who was raised in that area and ask her if she recalls seeing the cemetery. I was told you could get to it by going out Skycrest Country Road at one time, but when the By-Pass came through it made that rosd a dead-end. If you learn anything more, I would appreciate hearing from you. I have been aware of the mystery of how James Pugh (of Thomas) could have been hanged at Hillsborough in 1776 by Tryon's militia yet was named executor of his father's will in 1794. My own inquiries have produced no answers. I was born in Randolph County;a descendant of Thomas Pugh,Jr. So my interest in this question continues. We just found the reference to LEWALLEN CEMETERY (Mack Road?). We were on Mack Road yesterday (May 15, 2007) and couldn't find it, nor did anyone we ask, know of it. Did anyone ever find it?
