    3. I did a book on david Rollins and the lambs. nancy Baker married david in 1809 in Randolph Co., NC His 1st wife was mother of these children. She is THOUGHT to have been Lydia Collins but there is no proof. I think her last name may have been mixed up with later generations. Do you have any more information on Enoch, Ruth or Nathaniel? There were VERY FEW Odell's from Ireland at that time in history..the name was corrupted at the time of the Irish Potato Famine, around 1850's...with so many O'Days, O'Roarks, O'Malleys, O'Sullivans et. al., that they were told "this is how to spell your name"..and we Odell's know different..but for some reason, in the southern states, O'Dell has become commonplace, neither can presume to be RIGHT OR WRONG...and there's no right or wrong to it. But Irish? Nope.

    2. Mike Hardester
    3. My HARDESTER / HARDISTER family were in the Randolph County area from around 1780 to 1815. The family migrated primarily to two areas: Arkansas and Missouri. Later, some continued on to California - the former seemed to settle in Southern California while the latter went on to Northern California, with some settling in Indiana and Illinois along the way. I have no idea of the reason for the migration, but I do know that my family, back to a least my g-grandfather, has preferred to live in a rural area whenever possible. So, if the area in which they were living became crowded, they probably pulled up stakes and moved on. Again, that's what my family has done. Mike - CA back to Eastern NC and looking to move again One problem in

    3. This came to my mind ... I think it might be valid also. What about Indian displacements. Wasn't a lot of that going on even before the Civil War? I heard it was the goal of President Washington as well as others to displace the Indians to a point on the other side of the Mississippi. --- [email protected] wrote: > During ALL thde years between the end of the > Revolutionary War and the Civil > War there was movement from NC to Indiana. 1. [NCR'ndol] RE: Migration from NC to IN.
    2. Brenda, What I have seen from members of those families I am searching from Montgomery and Randolph Counties in NC had a lot to do with the Civil War,and economic conditions in the south at the time. I have people who went to the Plainfield/Indianapolis, IN area, some stayed while others made a trip or two back to NC. I remember reading about the "Hoosiers" a bit ago and the story was of a huge group of people from out of Winston-Salem( Forsyth County) who gathered a lot of the local people from NC and traveled to IN as a group. If you can check with Forsyth County Library in Winston-Salem,NC you might find more information,or check search engines for "Hoosiers." I'm sure the libraries in IN will have information about that. I don't know about those going to Arkansas though. Good luck, Richard C. Harper

I know because several branches of my family participated in this migration. Some of them didn't like slavery, others movedfor religious reasons (?), who knows what else? 2. Cecile Harrell
    3. Brenda, My husband's Harrell family left Guilford (just above Randolph) Co between 1860 and 1870 for Bartholomew Co, Indiana. According to the little verbal info that I have gotten from the current family, the Harrell family left because of post Civil War difficulties in the area. Also, according to reading on the subject a few years ago, I learned that quite a few families left for Indiana and Arkansas at that time and that some had left ca 1820 for the same areas. I suppose that word of that move and some possible connections to the 1820 families contributed to the decision of those who left 50 years later. If I can locate the material on the moving subject, will send to you. Supposedly China had a brother named William. Serona married Erasmus Cozart and had 2 daughters - Thelma & Evelyn. She died in 1920/21 at age 27 from tuberculosis in the tuberculosis sanitarium in Winston-Salem, NC. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Winston-Salem. She had a lot of oriental features according to descriptions of her given to my grandmother many years ago. Her name may have been Serona Edna since it is listed that way on the 1920 census so it could be listed either way on records. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
