It's'like ALLDREDGE, ALDREDGE, ALDRIDGE, ALLDRIDGE, ALDRITCH, ALDRICH, ETC., ETC., ETC. I was born in Evansville, IN, 1928, and moved to Atlantic Beah, FL in 1965. Been here ever since. 3. Live in Redding, CA, half way between Sacramento and Oregon state line. We moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1960 at age 14 where my father, brother, and one of my children still live. Dad was born in 1928 in Tipton. We were just in Evansville in July to visit an Aunt on Mother's side. The only spelling we have is from the bio on Hiram Rains written while he was still alive and he knew his grandparents. For many years we only knew her first name and thought the last might be Hammer. I still think it might be spelled Allred as now I find several of them around different Rains families but have not found a connect to Martha yet. 1. Re: [NCR'ndol] ALLDREDGE - ALDRIDGE
    2. Charles, Thanks for your response. I find the variant spelling of the name to be interesting. I have seen ALLDREDGE, ALDRIDGE, ALLDRIDGE, ALDREDGE, and even an ALDRICH. And a question as to whether the ALRED clan, also big in NC, had a connection. My gr-gr-grandfather, John James, spelled it as ALDRIDGE on his marriage license and later as ALLDREDGE. My mother drew out a pedigree chart for me when I was about 8 or 9 years old and she was very specifice and emphatic with me, telling me that it was spelled with "two els and an ee." Using your format: Genealogy Robert Brookins COOK, b. 1928, Evansville, IN Mabel BROOKINS, b. 1903, Posey Co., IN, d. 1959, Evansville, IN Harriet Nettleton MOORE, b. 1871, Posey Co., IN - d. 1928, Evansville, IN Emily Ann ALLDREDGE, b. 1840, Posey Co., IN - d. 1892(?), Posey Co., IN John James ALLDREDGE, b. 1816, Posey Co., IN - d. 1903, Posey Co., IN Samuel ALLDREDGE, b. 1790, Randolph Co., NC - d. 1870, Posey Co., IN I see no direct connection with your line except we share Randolph County, NC. I suppose that my Samuel could've been a sibling or cousin to your Sarah. Does anything look familiar to you? I look forward to your response. 3. Here's another Hoosier boy, living in CA with an interest in Alred from Randolph Co., NC. My family line is Rains, my 5th Great Grandmother was Martha Alred of Randolph, NC where my Grandfather Joab Rains married her and they settled in IN and are both buried at Old Knightstown Cemetery. I would love to find anything on Martha and her family. Actually at time of birth would have been Guildford Co., then later Randolph Co. at time of marriage. Have been to her grave but let name was identified by grandson Hiram Rains, founder of Rainstown, Union Twp, Hendricks Co., IN. I was born and raised in Tipton Co., IN. I was just in FL to visit to grave of my Grandfather Floyd Rains in Jacksonville and vacation through the state with my family. David Raines

I am extremely interested in knowing more about the specific locations of where early families lived in Randolph. Are there any old maps which give clues to families' lands during the 1700s and 1800s? I have a wonderful map of Guilford, which provides the locations of where various people lived or owned property. Is there anything like this for Randolph? Thanks! Maureen

    3. I don't know if this will be a help to you but I thought I would give you the following. My daughter in law was an Alexander. Her ancestor was James Alexander who was born about 1760 and came to Roane Co., Tn.Roane at that time went down to and maybe included Monroe Co. James had a son Thomas so that name is in the family. James had a son Joseph who moved to Monroe Co and then into Polk Co., Tn. I believe your Thomas related. Now James came here from Spartenburg Co., S. C. but the family says their Alexanders had come from N. C. and they think Md. before that. Then they claim they tie to Lamar Alexanders line [the politician] whose line was Blount Co. I heard this before Lamar went into politics. The Murrays were a prominent family I believe in Knox Co. My husbands line is John Hinds of Randolph Co., NC who came into Knox and children to Roane Co. There were Allreds in his original records and I think Julians. I know a Julian desc. in Roane Co. I live here in Roane. I believe I have a record of the earliest Julian into NC. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 12:05 PM Subject: [NCR'ndol] Re: Julian, Allred, Cheney, Coble, Idenden, Smith, Swafford, Trip, Wilkinson, Yeargain > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: JULIAN, MURRAY, ALEXANDER, RICHESIN, ELLIOTT > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kUB.2ACE/1687.2 > > Message Board Post: > > My GGG Grandparents were : > > JOHN ANDREW MURRAY or ANDREW MURRAY b. abt. 1768 who md.
