I'm descended from Hester/Ester Black Thompson born 1769 along the Broad River in N.C., daughter of Thomas Black. Hester Black married Nathan Dutch Thompson, a methodidt circuit rider,preacher, and first county coroner of Haywood Co. N.C. Hester and Nathan Thompson lived on Soco creek, and according to the Miller Roll applications of some of their grandchildren Hester's Indian name was said to be Gantanaga. is this a Cherokee word, and if so what is the translation in English ?

PETERSON and Mollie w/o Miles are buried in the Holmes Hill Cemetery (Original Natemore Cemetery) at Kelly, NC (Natemore Community). A son of Henry H. WILLIAMS, JR. is buried beside his grandmother, Mary Cahterine. Natemore is between the Black River and the Cape Fear in what used to be Frenches Creek Township. Do you know where Isham is buried? I heard he was buried in Bigford Cemetery, but I could not find a Bigford Cemetery in that area of Bladen County. Hi All, I am trying to figure out the parents of Charity Jane Smith, born 1812 in Ash County (?) North Carolina. She married William Richard McCann, who was a trader with the Cherokee. Charity was Cherokee, but we do not know what her Cherokee name was. They moved out of North Carolina up into Virginia (the area that is now Wayne County, WV) sometime after their first child, Sarah Ann, was born in 1830. Migrating to WV along with them were other ancestors of mine: Nelsons, Lamberts, Smiths, and Webbs.
