Hi, I am new to the list and would like to know if any of you have information about a tuberculosis sanitarium or hospital in or close to Tryon, North Carolina in 1910. My grandmother, Frances Vesta Hewitt Schmidt, had T.B. and died in Tryon in 1910 at the age of twenty. She was supposed to have been sent from Cincinnati to a sanatarium where they were still hoping for a cure. Family history also says she was with relatives in Tryon but since she had a communicable disease, I rather think she was in a hospital or in seclusion with others who also had the disease. I haven't found this information elsewhere so I thought perhaps someone on the list who lives/lived in the Tryon area might know if there was a special home or hospital for T.B. patients. I would be grateful for any information any of you might have on this question.
